Bored. Just finished my last easter egg; remembered it's bin night tonight; also remembered a phone call I forgot to make; thinking I'll have to feed the cats soon and wondering about ordering pizza....maybe I should cook, it's cheaper.
All boring stuff, so came to see if anything interesting is happening on MR, that's how I got here. The pizza's for me, not for the cats! |

Wondering what I'm going to do tomorrow. Instead of working tomorrow and Friday morning I work Friday all day, that way I can clean (out) and decorate the shop window for the Queen's Day and sport summer season (orange!).
If the weather was nice I would go for a walk or a bicycle ride but rain is predicted. Maybe I'll just curl up in bed and have a Time Team binge. |

My friends just called telling me they're going to pick up their new dog, Luca, on Sunday. Lyca, who I always looked after when they're away died a couple of months ago. Around the same time their son was diagnosed with an allergy for pets, mostly for cats but also for dogs. Their going to "try out" Luca for a week to see how their son reacts to it and to see if it clicks.
Personally I wouldn't have gotten a dog this time of year; from April until September when the weather is nice they're going to the camping (no dogs allowed) during the weekends. And in the summer holiday their going away for three weeks. If I would get a new dog I would do so in a period when I'm at home for a longer period of time. Mind you, I don't mind looking after a new dog but it might be a bit confusing for Luca. Chances are that I'm going to look after him/her next (bank holiday) weekend. Hopefully Luca is as nice as Lyca, though a bit less bark-y would be nice. |

What will happen to the poor dog if the son has a bad reaction to him/her?
I'm more of a cat person, but I hate to see any animal regarded as dispensible. Sorry if I've misread the situation. |

Also another thing to keep in mind is that they have a small house and it's a young (2 years) dog and it isn't a small one either (shepard mix). Lyca was the same mix but she was old and slept most of the day. I just hope that everything goes okay. Mostly for the dog's and the boy's sake (although that might be a bit mean towards my friends). I'm both a cat and a dog person, but I like cats more, probably because we've always had cats and never had a dog (living above a store in an inner city with no real good dog walking areas nearby). |

@Stitchy - I was reminded with yet another image today of people in public in Japan (but I've seen similar images from elsewhere in east and southeast Asia) wearing masks as if they are trying to reduce their exposure (or maybe of others around them) to allergens or airborne pathogens. That's not typical in the U.S. What gives?

The most common is not to share their cold with others. It's a very polite society. The second reason is not to catch someone eles's cold. Not everyone is polite. The third is, right now, the middle of pollen season. High Season, if you will. I'm going through a box of tissues every few days, and that's with taking antihistamines regularly! For the last three weeks the cedar tree pollen was at all time record highs, (Cedar is the most common tree in Japan,) and now the cherry tree pollen is giving us sufferers another round. The attached photo is called "Asian Suntan" Stitchawl |
