So sorry for all of you dealing with this CWatkinsNash.

Just wow. Some people are just so totally clueless. You see the best and the worst of people during these kinds of disasters. Too bad it didn't occur to this person to do something, anything, to assist in some way. Rubberneckers make any disaster worse.

Thank you! It's so strange to be here, cozy in the house (finally) and then walk out front to all of the ruin. But I just try to remember that we were really, really lucky and that it's going to take me time to process. I'm not very patient with myself. LOL

I've heard of it happening in other places, of course, and always thought it to be just gross behavior, but watching it happen in front of me was a whole new level of outrage.

That cluelessness was what was the most baffling to me. We had other rubberneckers, of course, but they weren't as noticeable because they were smart enough to grab a case of water or chips or something from the pallets at the end of the block and offer them to people.

But, as you said, we see the best and the worst at these times, and the best definitely outweighed the worst. The outpouring of love and support from people was incredible. I know a lot more of my neighbors now, and they're really good people.

@CWatkinsNash: The devastation to entire neighbourhoods from these sorts of disasters can take a long time to recover from, and it does bring out the best and, sadly, the worst in people. I'm sorry you got subjected to the worst, but glad you are seeing the best in your neighbours and the community supporting everyone.

And that should be the long term takeaway from this -- a new, and better understanding of your neighbours and a shared commitment to coming back strong and resilient.

Amen to that Charlie.
I went through Hurricane Fran years ago, which packed night time tornadoes that dropped a tree on my house. You find out very soon the goodness in neighbors and total strangers.
And learn to move on from the negative stuff.

This virus thing is hitting home. One person has it at work at the neighboring building. My manager called me on my day off to tell me my desk moved, they are trying to space people 8 feet apart for safety till they can arrange a work from the home plan which is not good for me for i do not have a quiet space

I just emailed the hotel in Rotterdam I booked for a couple of days next week. My mother has several pre-existing conditions, which means it's very dangerous for her to catch the Covid-19 virus. We already have a higher risk of catching it, with our store. So I want to minimize the risk at all cost. I'll re-book when things are back to normal again.

If my father or I get sick (whether it's Covid-19 or not) my mother is going to stay with my sister. I honestly don't think she'll survive the virus if she catches it, seeing how bad a common cold can affect her.

I do hope our government takes better action. On the one hand I'm afraid the store will close (no help for small businesses so far), but on the other hand I want them to, to get this virus under control as quickly as possible. We Dutch are masters at finding the middle road and compromising, but I don't think this is the time for that.

I managed to buy two packages of TP today. As I was standing at the bus stop, a man came up to me and asked, "Hey, where did you buy the toilet paper?" I told him, "At El Super (a grocery store) right over there. The limit is two packages per family, but people are getting their sons and daughters to buy some too." He said he couldn't find TP anywhere--Walmart and Costco ran out... He hurried off to El Super after the conversation. I have enough TP for the next month or so; 'hope that suffices.

Hubby stopped at BJ's yesterday after work, and got some t-paper and stew meat. I'm thankful I did a large grocery run on Thursday and bought 14 days + worth of food. I used to shop that way all the time, when our kids were here, so I just needed to polish off those old organizational skills again. We already had enough food in the house for a couple of weeks, if we'd needed to make do.

Hubby said the meat aisle was cleaned out, except for that 1 pack of stew meat. He said the only t-paper they had left was the Charmin xtra-strong sandpaper style. He got the last large pack of Mega Soft.

Our church live streams their service every week anyway, so tomorrow's service will be streamed as normal, with no actual in-house activity. It will be odd for the man who is speaking to talk to empty pews. There will be about 12 people there to make it all happen, hubby included to run the sound board. The company that manages this, Sermon Audio, has already added more servers or whatever they need to handle the increased use of so many churches doing this now and the increase of viewers.

Tim's mom has recently moved into a nursing home...she has only been there 11 days. Only one person per day can visit, the same person per day. Fortunately they had their meeting last week, and she seems to be adjusting pretty well. Both her and my mom are 89...mine still lives on her own. She is fine, has never been in the hospital for illness.

Mom was in the hospital for two weeks, so she is in a rehab facility. No visitors allowed since Tuesday evening. She has dementia so this is very hard on her.
This is in Tennessee.

Great timing for me to get a sinus infection. So headache, coughing annoyance. Cancelled my early morning, quick trip to grocery store due to the coughing likely alarming everybody. Nothing that can't wait for a few days (cream, raisins, etc). We have bidets in both bathrooms, so toilet paper not an issue for us (bidet doesn't eliminate the need, but cuts down usage considerably). I had to cut up an old sheet for rags because I have two sick kitties - one vomits, one has diarrhea, so I was going through paper towels faster than can be sustained. Both are under vet care, so doing what we can.

The only good thing about this virus thing is that my Mom isn't sending me out for errands every single day, which is giving me more time to do stuff that I never get to. My most productive time is between 9 and noon and I seem to spend all my time doing dumb errands. Since I axed all errands after 3:00PM to avoid crowded stores, I'm getting more reading done.

I have some extra - I put it on eBay - 25 cents per square or 3 for $1. Free shipping for orders over $100.

People here must have gotten over their t-paper etc fetish, because the supermarket I went to yesterday had plenty. But I noticed they had almost no fruit, veg, meat, dairy, bread, deli etc. So I walked round the corner, where there are 2 greengrocers, a butcher, 2 delis, a fishmonger and a couple of bakeries, apart from the fishmonger their shelves had plenty of stock.

Maybe Anglo's have forgotten how to buy things across a counter. I say that because most of the customers in those shops are migrants from non-English speaking countries, as are the owner/operators.

I we get locked down that could be a problem for me, I can't drive (poor eyesight) hence I don't have a car. So, I walk to the shops every 2-3 days and return with one or two not very full bags.
