Watching the news. My wife just alerted me that a jet just crashed into an apartment building in Virginia Beach. Rumor is it was a military plane and the pilot ejected, but no word yet of the resident's status. The building is ablaze. Details are sketchy.

Even bystanders are assisting firefighters in Virginia Beach. Seems just about every rescue vehicle in the area is on the scene. No injuries have been mentioned yet, but stretchers by the score are being brought in.

It was a military aircraft.

My hopes aren't very high. The fumes have people covering their faces for several blocks. The firefighters evidently are having a difficult time getting into the building because of the fumes.

It was a FA-18, one of our most sophisticated fighter jets. The only good news so far is that both pilots ejected and are safe, but you know this is going to be with them for life.

A special and huge Naval Firefighting truck has doused the entire building in a special foam and evidently has the fire out. The thick, oily, jet fuel smoke had covered the entire area all morning "like a fog." Firefighters are hoping to enter the buildings soon. One building is pretty well destroyed, and another has severe damage.
