I am giving myself a pat on my back - I have often been told when doing organisation change assignments how good I am at flushing the idiots out into view (and in that environment means, for them, onto the redundancy list or demotion to the mail room).

Starbucks doesn't seem to have taken off much over here apart from in Auckland where there is a fair bunch of them. Wellington has only one (and another in a satellite city in a mall), and in Christchurch there is only one (again in a mall).

I can't comment on Christchurch as I haven't been to the CBD there since the earthquake but I suspect in Wellington there is too much competition from the existing number of quite good independent cafes. Long may it stay that way.

Yes they do seem to be a bunch of, using your word, "blowhards" . Even stranger is they seem to want to discredit, by means of shallow scoffing rather than facts, everyone who does find the solutions offered interesting or who already uses them.

Actually, FWIW, I grew up on boats.

Both sets of my grandparents were boating folk; my one grandfather preferred power; the other sail. I could take care of teak decks almost before I could ride a bicycle and I grew to loathe cleaning brass at the same time. I probably have grooves in my skin to this day from wearing life preservers in my toddler years and I could say "regatta" before I could walk. I lived shipboard every summer, well into my early teen years.

I'm well aware of using Oxalic acid--which is WHY I like Barkeeper's Friend over Comet, et al. I just don't bloody well care that it's a few pennies more than making it myself--which, I think, is what I said.

That's great news, which I believe I have seen you mention once before elsewhere in these forums. But I am surprised if that in that environment you did not gain (or have perhaps since lost) a tolerance for people offering solutions based on experience of what is widely used in that industry (both pleasure and commercial) - even if they are solutions based on pennies rather than tens of dollars.

And any loss of strength of independence giving resilience to the views of others which they self determine as being a challenge to their own rather than as being an alternative would be a bit surprising. Unusual to find such in the pleasure boating community - even the often terse pleasure boating forums, and marina discussions are otherwise swimming with sharing of information and ideas backed up with described experience and humor without others revealing their lack of experience by scoffing or feeling threatened. I know that also applies in the US but I won't expand on that unless asked, someone is sure to take offence or start throwing terms around such as "blowhard".

And that's how a pay period with 22.5 hours scheduled and 3 days off becomes 35 hours and one day off.

No nothing at all about that, people can pay what they like for cleaners it is of no concern to me if they are not interested in alternatives. I am only interested in mentioning alternatives for others to consider should they wish.

With luck the container, which may well account for most of the $5, should last for a couple of millennia.

I did a work experience stint at a UK Defence Lab in the '60's, where I found a hand written recipe book for a variety of cure/fix-alls; so I've been cooking up concoctions since long before we even knew there was a climate, let alone a big whirlypool thingmy in the North Pacific.
