I'm probably going to succumb to temptation pretty soon, now that Viggle's added Hachette to their inventory. That puts two novels and two shorts from my shortlist into play, and I've found about half a dozen Cthulhu Mythos books.

The other factor that's changing the equation is that I've found a site that makes it almost trivially easy* to hit the daily reward point cap, which has "temporarily" been raised from 6000 to 12000 points. For those keeping track, this means that if I hit the cap every day for a week, that's enough for three average novels with around 3000 points left over.

So, yeah - a free book every other day? Not a bad deal.

* There are several shows every night that offer a 4x or 6x check-in rate along with a real-time trivia game that's worth 100-250 points/question. Last night, I checked into a reality/competition show for 15x plus a 4500-point trivia game. I don't watch that show, but I still got most of the questions right, and I followed it up with a show I do watch for another 4x +1500. Adds up fast...

Sounds like a plan.

FWIW, I love my Kindle Voyage. (I know, not your preferred format/infrastructure.) But I always keep the previous generation around for quite some time after I upgrade.

Succumbed to temptation, and I'm glad I did. I'm now 80K points poorer, but two novels and two shorts richer. Of the four acquisitions, three of them are Hachette/Orbit EPUB 3 books, which are still iffy at Kobo. Best part is, I'm still sitting on almost 420K points, which is about where I was a week ago.

I could get used to this. Build up to about 500K, buy three or four books, but don't dip below 400K. It's a fairly steady stream, and leaves some cushion in case of new developments.

Now, if only they'd fix their JavaScript to work on Firefox and Chrome...

My kickstarter payment has gone through, so I now know how much it's cost me: £24.43 is what my bank charged be for the $36 payment. Not too bad. I was hoping for under £24, but the pound isn't as good against the dollar as it was for most of last year.

Calculations: My kickstarter has got me:
1 x Queers Destroy SF: £0.86
1x Queers Destroy Horror: £0.86
1x Queers Destroy Fantasy: £0.86
1x Queer Anthology: £0.85 (sic)
12 x new issues of LightSpeed Magazine: £0.30*12 = £3.60
58x back issues of Fantasy Magazine: £0.30*58 = £17.40

(The first 4 I could have got for a $5 pledge, so count them each as 1/4 of 5/36th of the price. That's 85p each. The remainder covers 70 magazine issues. That's 30p each with 3p left over - let's add that on to each of the special editions (not anthologies) making them £0.86.)

I will count the back issues this month, and the rest as they come in.

And I am still well in budget for January/February! Hooray!

Mind you, my TBR is now up 54 books over January 1st.

I don't count magazines, but then that's possibly why I don't buy or read them much, so I'm not sure it's a great policy.

I came close on two $3 deals at Amazon in the past few days, but one of my Overdrive libraries owns both and they were available, too. So, when (if ever) I feel like reading them, it should be at most a short wait. Phew! At the end of today, I'll be holding steady with three books purchased out of a budget of seven.

Actually, I've got quite good at resisting temptation of this sort so I don't think I'd have pulled the trigger anyway, but the library option made it effortless.

I've just succumbed to a Humble Bundle. I paid $10 (£6.69) - just over the average for 14 books. But one I already had, and six others I'm not too interested in, so I've marked them as free and split the cost among the others. It does include one books I've wanted for a long time - The Chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox by Barry Hughart. It also includes books by authors I like: Ted Chiang, Connie Willis, Tim Powers, Connie Willis. And two new to me authors that look worth reading.

I'm perilously close to going over budget. But not quite.

I succumbed - first for an eARC (expensive!) from my absolute favourite author, and then for the latest Laurie King book at the release price. But that was because my DW really wanted it, so I guess that shouldn't be charged against me. None the less, definitely up against it for the rest of the month.

I will be buying an ebook on Tuesday. It's by a favorite author and I'll read it right away. It's also couponable and I have a 55% off coupon from the latest contest. So I think it's okay to buy.

Had a few moments of weakness the last couple months buying books I didn't need(only 2 or 3 books) but doing better lately.

That was my reasoning yesterday. I've been itching to get one of the four new acquisitions (sequel to a book I really liked), two more are part of a series I'm reading (read book 1, have 2, these are 2.5 and 3), and the last is the epilogue/backstory to a series I thoroughly enjoyed.

More good news: one of my favorite comedic-fantasy writers, Tom Holt, has a new book coming out at the end of July, and the Viggle store carries his publisher. Ka-ching!

I went over budget the first week. ^^;
Only by something under $3 (don't have the exact numbers in front of me at the moment).
Excuse:
I was gifted a 75% code and used it to buy 2 books that I would have bought next month anyway - and willingly with a lesser code.

Going to take $3 off next month's budget to make up for it.
I am going to be moving though, so I don't expect to be buying a bunch of books next month.

I recently started using Goodreads. I only put my ebooks there and noticed that I haven't read 69 of them. Why did I buy them? This is like Steam all over.

Only 69? You're doing well. My unread pile currently stands at over 800. Although some of the older ones may be books I've read, but have forgotten that I've read (since I only started keeping track in 2010).

I have been very good this month and have only bought one book, on a daily deal, so it was only 99p. Finding my budget easy to keep to so far. However, actually reading has been another story...
