I'm curious if the marigold flowers add a recognizable flavor. I recently tried some Chinese black teas flavored with rose and lavender and was pleasantly surprised at how well the floral flavors complement the tea.
Even though Earl Grey is sort of traditional, I've always balked at paying premium prices for a flavored tea. I mostly drink it when I want decaf, because the citrus and bitterness from the bergamot cover for the flat-tasting decaf tea. Even when I drink caffeinated, though, I drink Twinings or Bigelow. I should buy some that's higher quality so that I at least know what I'm missing. On that note, I think I'll have some Twinings decaf Earl Grey. |

There is a very distinctive taste to the Earl Grey Cream. It is not that badly priced and still retains a clear Earl Grey flavor while not the strong bergamot flavor.

The level of Bergamot in Earl Grey implementations is highly variable. I find I can tolerate the ones on the lower end of the scale, but too much and I don't enjoy it. Though mostly these days I go with "plain tea". (Of course, I consider Lapsang Souchong "plain tea", so it's not like I'm exactly consistent here!)

Office party/dinner last night. Drank nothing but real San Pellegrino. My faux San Pellegrino is very similar indeed, though I'd say my bubbles are bigger. Wonder how they manage to get such small ones.
Today, since I'm in the office all day, it will be Murchie's English Breakfast and/or Lion Mountain Keemun. |

As my Xmas present from me to me, I've ordered a bottle of Edradour Ballechin 10 Year Old Heavily Peated - couldn't find it locally - sounded intriguing.

Ok, both are intensely peaty, and "cask strength". For the 6.1, that works out to 57%, for the 7.3, 63%. Initially, the alcohol overpowers the nose at close range, but from across the room, the peat is very noticeable. A drop on the lips/tongue opens up as it gets diluted in the mouth, with the flavour expanding over 60-120 seconds.
After adding a bit of water, the alcohol no longer overpowers the flavour of the whisky. The Octomore 7.3 has a dusky/smoky nose where the 6.1 has a more peaty nose with definite floral notes. In the mouth, the floral continues, even as the peatiness expands. The 7.3, on the other hand, has no floral at all, but a bit of that almost oily character that Lagavulin has until you dilute it slightly. I'm thinking that the 7.3 will want a bit more water than the 6.1 to let the peat open up without being oily. Overall, I'd say that I prefer the Octomore 6.1 by a slight margin because of the characteristic floral notes that I associate with Bruichladdich. |

Pu-Erh in my cup.
After my last pair of nice socks developed a hole, I decided against waiting for Christmas and went to REI to buy socks. I like the quality of socks they have at REI and I had my annual dividend to spend. I went and bought socks, four dress and four sports. I had socks on my Christmas list so I know I'll get a few more then and if I don't, I'll go back and buy more. As I exited the store I saw a Peet's Coffee and Tea store across the way. I decided to check out their teas and was shocked to find that all that they sold was Mighty Leaf. CRussel has bemoaned the drop in their tea quality but I was shocked to see that they didn't have any of their own teas. Bleeeech. Anyway, I went home and made a pot of Dragonwell from Teavana and enjoyed my evening while washing socks. |

Drinking Peet's Irish Breakfast Blend tea this morning. Just about the last of it, and I doubt I'll be buying any more from them. |

Columbian Supremo from a local Ohio roaster (available at my grocer's in whole-bean). I may have found my "everyday" coffee bean.
