wodin, I know and understand. I wish this was a new phenomena but it is all too regular, very true.

I think I found out the reason I'm coughing; hayfever.
Since last Thursday the itchy cough disappeared, I only had to cough when my throat got dry (normal for me after a nasty cold) and that could be prevented or remedied easily. Yesterday afternoon, however, the itchy cough returned. I've had it a couple of times before, mostly when staying in a wooded area. I did hear reports last week that some types if hayfever could be triggered due to the warm winter. The reason why it didn't bother me for almost a week: it was rainy and damp. Now that the weather is dry and sunny the itchy cough returns. I've just taken a pill, and it seems to have started kicking in. Knock on wood. Just to be sure I'll keep my diffuser on during the night, it'll also help with the dry throat. If the cough returns despite the pills I'll give my doctor a call on Monday. |

I usually get a break from allergies in the winter but it hasn't been consistently cold enough here to kill off outdoor allergens. We've had a few days here and there of normal winter temperatures but mostly it's been well above normal. Hardly any days where I had to scrape the car windows in the morning.

I think that I got the hayfever when I was on vacation three weeks ago, plus the nasty cold. And since then both must have made the other worse.
Luckily I'm feeling a lot better after just one pill. My throat is still irritated, but with the amount of coughing I did in the past 30 hours that isn't surprising. My eyes and, strangely, my ears are also doing a lot better. Keeping my fingers crossed that I actually have hayfever and the pills don't stop working after taking it a couple of times, like everything I tried in the past three weeks. |

I lost another tablet possibly; I left it in someone's car. Who knows if he'll give it back to me.

The pill I took worked for about half a day, I think it must have been the placebo effect because I took another one last night and it didn't do anything. I spent all night coughing, I dozed in between coughing fits. It's annoying because this stuff worked great the last couple of years. I feel like a zombie, I took one of those painkillers (sore throat) which also has caffeine and vitamin C in it. Hopefully that'll give me a boost of energy soon.
When getting lunch later this morning I'll pop by the drugstore and get something else for the hay fever, maybe a couple of things. I might even get some loratadine, which worked in the past, but made my hair fall out. I am planning on making an appointment with the doctor on Monday to get a prescription. I've never had it this bad, especially not at home (city center). I did a placement once in the woods, when I got there in the morning the cold symptoms started, but went away after I returned home. I can understand that the symptoms were bad when I was on vacation, which was in the woods, but they should have lessened after I went home. Also I never had hay fever this early. If I had it, and I don't have it every year, it's in March, April or May. I looked at the pollen radar, and the week where I thought I was getting better from my cold the pollen count was low. So it explains a lot. Today pollen level is 3 out of 4 on the radar, in the coming days it will stay that way. It will rain, especially tomorrow, which is good, but it will be very windy, which apparently isn't good. Keeping my fingers crossed I can find something that work reasonably well against the coughing to tide me over until Monday. I can live with the tingly nose and irritated eyes, but the coughing isn't fun at all. |

The cough med that works for me is Dextromethorphan in liquid cap form. Last edited by Deskisamess; 02-08-2020 at 11:49 AM. |

It's indeed a rare side effect. But since I've got fine hair and though not exactly thin but certain not full I'd rather avoid anything that causes hair loss.
In the end the drugstore owner recommended a homeopathic pill. I did take it in 2013 when I had bad sun allergy and it worked a lot better than the salve I got from the doctor (so thick it hurt to rub in and it didn't do much). So far I'm doing okay. I still cough, but not nearly as much and as bad as I did over the last couple of days. It wouldn't surprise me if the current coughing is due to the fact that my throat is irritated from all the previous coughing. It hasn't yet worked for my eyes, though that can also be because I'm tired. My tingly nose got worse before it got better. I'll see how it goes tonight, I just want to be able to sleep without a problem. Even if that happens I'm not going to be too enthusiastic; I've taken so many pills, lozenges and syrups over the past three and half week that worked a couple of times/days and then stopped working that I don't trust anything at the moment. I just hope that at the very least it will tide me over until I can get an appointment with my doctor on Monday. |
