A very Irish kind of day here, so Peet's Irish Breakfast Blend tea is the perfect tea to get the day started. I'll get enough smoke today, with about 9 kilos of bacon in the smoker. I'll have to be in and out of the rain to check on it. At the current price for pork bellies, I don't want anything to go wrong with this batch!

But my Darjeeling for today will have to wait. First things first, a large mug of Peet's Major Dickason's Blend coffee to get me moving. THEN we can try for a Darjeeling, though I'll have to poke around and see which one interests me today...

I went on a tea buying spree a little while ago, so I've been trying to drink through my stash before even looking at more. I still have an unopened 500g box of the Lipton Darjeeling, so that's what I drink when I'm not specifically in the mood for something else.

Made it through a 'challenging' week of idiocy to reach the Thanksgiving holiday break ... so I'm breaking open a bottle of Port Charlotte tonight ...

So, immediately after saying I wasn't buying more tea, I bought more tea. I was at the grocery store and noticed that Lipton is trying to move into premium loose tea in the US. I bought a container of their "Iced" blend, mainly because it claims to be Kenyan and I haven't tried Kenyan tea. At $8 for 135g, it's almost twice as expensive by weight as Lipton's "Green Label" Darjeeling, for which I pay $16 for a 500g box at a local Indian grocery store.

Even though I'm prepared to be disappointed, I'm excited to try it in the morning.

Finished off a Coke Zero from a shopping trip. The kids are home for the break and I need to kick up the food shopping again. Especially since I'd like to stay off the roads as much as possible for the next few days.

I'm having the Pure Leaf Iced Tea blend and it's good. It's richly malty and only mildly bitter. It's more astringent than I would consider balanced, so I'll try steeping less than the suggested three minutes next time.

It's comparable in quality to Twinings.

I admit, I haven't been a big fan of Kenyan teas. Not quite sure why, but they have a taste profile I'm not quite comfortable with. OTOH, it's always fun to try new teas!

This morning, however, I need to go with Major Dick. Didn't sleep well last night, and I've got a tonne of scripting to work on to get ready for this weekend's server migration.

I thought it was a little too astringent, but my wife thought it was way too astringent.
