I enjoyed this one too. Although the weird spelling of the names does get a bit tiresome. Hmmm..... if I ever re-read them, I'm tempted to do a mass search and replace on the names.

I do worry a little about the omniscient view we have in the story, but that's very similar to other David Weber series - we get to see what both sides are saying and doing. Interesting hints about possible happenings in the next volume.

I was a bit disappointed with the formatting of the Mobipocket version. The first letter in each chapter appeared on a line on its own, and there were some words split into syllables (presumably from left-over soft hyphens somehow converted to spaces). Considering that they're asking a RRP of $27.99, this is not acceptable. It's obvious that no-one had proof-read the Mobipocket version at all. (I didn't pay $27.99 of course - only about $7.14 including micropay rebates. Still about twice my average book cost.)

Now onto the next in Eric Flint's 1632 series - 1635: The Tangled Web, not by Eric Flint but by Virginia DeMarce. More a collection of stories and a novella than a complete novel. The 1632 series aren't stand-alone. Don't read this one first!

Keeps getting better - so much better, in fact, that it's slowly eating away more and more of my sleep-time.

Getting near the end of The Master and Margarita and still loving it. And I just started the biography of Louis XIV that jumped in my arms a few weeks ago as I was wandering in la Fnac (large bookstore). So I'm reading paper books only at the moment.

Nice. After reading TPOTE by Follett I think I am going to start reading all his other stuff. Why did I never know about this guy before this.

I am reading Sue Grafton's 'U is for Undertow' right now from the public library. I love getting ebooks from there! It's so handy. And the book is VERY good. I stayed up later than I should have last night to get a few more chapters in. It's funny how some long-running series have so declined over the years (Kellerman, Cornwell, I'm looking ta you) and I am still enjoying this one!

Sounds good, I just got it as a paper back for christmas! I even also got on of his crime stories, and I've never read a crime story before, so that is going to be interesting..

I'm just the opposite. I read his early stuff when it first came out but haven't read anything recent. The Eye of the Needle and the Key to Rebecca are good thrillers.

Just finished a Star Trek novel, and the last story in 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.' It's taking me awhile to finish that lovely omnibus edition, but I'll get there!

Not sure what I'll read next. I am getting a ton read over my holiday and enjoying it a lot I will report back later.

Just read a dreadful short story that was highly decorated, anthologized and studied. Lorrie Moore's "You're Ugly Too"

Had to follow it up with a couple of classic Hemingway stories - "A Clean Well Lighted Place" and "The Hills Like White Elephants" ahhhh!

You didn't like it? I read a book of short stories by Lorrie Moore years ago and loved them! I don't remember that one, but that doesn't mean anything, so I don't know whether I read it.

Ashamed to say that I was reading a treebook last night. My excuse is that it's not in ebook, came as a gift from my sister in England ... and is about Groucho Marx. This last should earn the forgiveness of fellow ebook readers. Best wishes and thanks for your fine company and great reading suggestions this year. Neil

You are forgiven so long as you read it inside a dog.

Oh I actually own one or two of her books and enjoy her writing, but this one IMO was just plain awful -- one of those what I call "New Yorker" type stories which I generally don't read I I know thats where it's from, but didn't learn that this one was first published there until after I'd read it.

Don't be ashamed Neil. I'm doing a lot of tree-type reading and switching back and forth the last couple of weeks.
