My mother would throw chanclas (sandals) at my older sisters while calling out their names:

Last week I had a cold. This week I have the flu. The joys of living with a four year old.

Just feeling off and tired today. The flu shot didn't work either, my arm from elbow to shoulder is sore.

I'm going to make a big mug of hot chocolate milk, make a snack and curl up in bed and watch something spooky, I'm still in a Halloween mood.

Flu shots do sometimes make the arm ache, and sometimes leave you achy for a day. This is not proof that the flu shot didn't work. When you later get no flu, or only a mild case of the flu, THAT is what proves the flu shot did work!

Exactly. And the cost of getting the flu? A whole lot more than a bit of an aching arm for a day or two. (BTW, going swimming will help -- the arm exercise will help distribute that extra fluid across a broader muscle area and speed up absorption.)

I know they work. I got my first one last year and I only had a mild cold last winter, instead of the flu I usually get in December or January. Last year my arm didn't hurt until a couple of days after the shot, but then I couldn't lift it very high. Right now it just feels slightly bruised around the injection area.

My father never gets any side effects, my mother gets them; swollen arm, shivery, mild cold symptoms for a couple of days.

My arm got pretty sore this year for a change, too. Now that two weeks have gone by, it should be fully in gear.

1) I was in a car-totalling wreck.

2) My kitty and best companion of 16 years died.

3) Cataract surgery and I'm only 46 and, because this is America, it cost me $1350.

4) My AC and Heat went out and will require replacing the system. 7k.

5) And the fuse box.

6) And the dishwasher went kaput and flooded the system.

/At the the cataract surgery went well.

Thanks, Tricho. At least, too, I wasn't at fault for the car wreck and the other person's insurance paid.

On the other hand...
