Busy week here. My mother turns 91 on Wednesday, so I'm making some plans for that (although no big party this year at her request). My kitty Gus is hanging in there. He looks clumsy and bloated, but so far seems to feel pretty good -- still enjoys eating, sleeping curled up with his sister, and being scratched behind his ears. His breathing still seems to be fine.

I spent the evening with my nephew -- the one recovering from knee surgery following his soccer injury. Look at the fortune he got in his fortune cookie tonight:

Loading books into the new Sony Touch I bought for my wife, and trying to figure out how to use the different features it has. It appears to do well with both Japanese and English fonts... I've discovered that it has an English-to-Japanese dictionary built in which means she won't have to carry her regular Cassio when she travels with it and reads English language books. I'm awaiting a charger and a cover that I ordered separately, and hope they will show up by Friday. Valentine's Day is our wedding anniversary and we are going out to dinner at a big hotel in Kyoto to celebrate. I plan to give the reader to her at dinner.

wasted the whole day playing with ancestry stuff! In between I did manage to recoat one outdoor chair. *sigh* two down 6 more and a giant table to go.

bluddy bloke thinks things have to be done properly. bluddy sanding back, washing with vinegar (bluddy last year's wet made everything mouldy)

One distant cousin of mine did research in our ancestry on my father's side. He asked us for some info on ourselves, and later sent us the result of his research. I seem to descend from a long line of bakers, is all I remember from scanning the list.

Funny, I'm the one that gets the instructions, which I then have to carry out. Where did I go wrong .

Sitting here shivering on the coldest day of the year with a broken central heating system. Engineer won't come out until Friday, and I just know when he gets here he's going to say that he either will need to order a new part, and it'll be another week of no heating, or that the boiler is obsolete and we'll need to buy a new one...
