I had my first appointment today for donating blood. They took four vials of blood for testing and if everything is nothing wrong I'll get a letter within 3-8 weeks to make an appointment.

As a reward I bought myself some macarons so as soon as my tea is ready I'm off to bed to watch a dvd.

Wow, quite a bit of testing they make you go through and scheduling...

Here in Australia, you turn up - they sap you dry... and then give you biccies, tea, pikelets and a beer before setting you loose again.

... okay, maybe not the beer.

I used to donate all the time, alas, got hit with a few tropical diseases and now it's preferred if I do not

Mr M gets brushed a thousand times a day and still has loose hair to spare. But at least he is not coughing up hairballs. He is so desparate to be brushed if you carry him past the brushing table without a brushing you can feel him squirming over.

I really wonder why, when cats are so fastidious about burying their stuff in the litter box, and only going where they CAN bury it, why they don't exhibit the same behavior for throwing up?

Felicity will go outside and eats some grass, come in and puke, but not have any hairballs. In fact, despite the fact that she ralphs a few times a week, NEVER has puked up a hairball, just clear liquid and a couple of stems of grass. We brush her every day, often twice a day, so when she cleans herself (covers herself with cat spit) she doesn't ingest much hair. Yet she still insists on throwing up. Oh well... she hasn't hit my slippers in several months so I should consider myself fortunate.

Mr M does puke occasionally. But usually some slime with a grass leaf in it or a lizard.

He likes to bury the toilet stuff and tries to bury his plate when he has finished eating (more so if he didn't eat it all), but never tries to bury vomit. Why is it so?

It's only when you go for the first time they take four vials. From then on they will contact me 2-3 times a year to make an appointment. After donating we also get a drink and something to eat and have to stay for about 15 minutes before we can go.

Those first four vials will be used to determine which blood group you have and if you have any blood transferable diseases.

Better than the stuff from the other end, though. I spent yesterday morning clearing up the runny stuff from various locations in the lounge. There was a particularly unpleasant lingering smell even after I'd finished, and it was only later when I saw Minx attempting the "bury" the wooden floor by the lounge door that I found another parcel behind the door! Don't know what got into him yesterday, because in the evening he squatted on our youngest's school bag and urinated into it. So I spent the time I could have been watching "The Killing" washing and soaking and drying various school-related items, including skipping ropes, homework book and hat/gloves/scarf. I love that cat.

This could be a sign of an underlying medical condition. Cats who stop using the litter-box usually do so as a result of a painful experience while IN the litter-box ... the classic case is a cat with a bladder infection & painful urination that starts using the bath tub or laundry basket. If your cat has had painful diarrhea in the litter-box, he associates the pain/discomfort with the box and will try using other locations. You might need a trip to the vet for a check-up.

For clean up, OdoBan is the best I've found for getting rid of cat urine smell (http://www.amazon.com/OdoBan-910062-...8276346&sr=1-3). Some grocery stores or pet stores carry it.

They are due a visit to the vet soon, so I'll mention it, thanks. Can't find OdoBan on Amazon over here, though I can get it through eBay. Just used Dettol Disinfectant.
