It was beyond any doubt that they would be removed as soon as Sony found out.

Or as soon as enough people noticed and downloaded them, if one thinks that they have been leaked on purpose.

Or maybe it's just an orchestrated leak by Sony to try to fool everyone? (or just trying to make some buzz about their next products and try to eclipse competitors product?)

If anyone has read all 20 odd pages already and could point me in the right direction it would be helpful thanks.

Looking for release date Ideally as will be in the US at start of Sept and would be great if i can pick one up.
No release dates, everything is rumor but seemingly well substantiated. I built a PRS600 page based on what we know and the comparison page has data on the PRS300 in the 5" table (added by Wallcraft). The wiki is usually your best source if you just want data.

Knowing that the new Sony readers would likely be announced around now, I bought a PRS-505 a month ago. I think it was the right decision - and I've tried to explain why in this (late!) review of the PRS-505.

In short, the next generation of readers aren't bringing that much more to the table, whilst maintaining a very high price. The price cuts to the last generation more than make up for the older technology.

This link should work for the 600. Google docs also has one for the 300 but I can't recall the file name to search.

The big commercial market will be happy with the more common standards (MP3 and lcd) already supported on widely available multi-purpose devices.

However, there is a market for those who want to pay more for superior technology. I own a Cowon player specifically because it supports OGG and FLAC. I own a Kindle (and soon Sony) because of e-Ink. However, for many other products the ability to "do the basics" is good enough for me and those can be found on my phone.

Sure, I would love a device that does everything I want perfectly, but there are trade-offs (cost, battery, size, commercial viability) where I don't see that happening for awhile.

Unless the audio capabilities support playlists, long battery life, etc... I won't be using my ebook reader for listening to music.
I bought a Rio Karma for it's ability to play Ogg Vorbis and FLAC. And it also sounds good too. I would have bought a Cowon, but they don't seem to care about their customers. No easy playlist creation, no replaygain, and not seamless going from one track to another without a gap. I know the Rio Karma does not have replaygain, but it has everything else.

I bought the 500 because I liked the way it looked. But then it did lose contrast after some time. I saw the 505 and upgraded because of the better screen and better ergonomics and I am happy with my 505. I'm probably going to wait to see what Sony might do later on for a larger screen device. Not sure. I'd have to see the 600.

There is an open source firmware for iPods that support ogg and flac. They also support the Cowan. http://www.rockbox.org/

The Cowon S9 beta firmware now supports gapless playback and M3u playlists. The only thing missing is replaygain support. So now, I can concider maybe getting an S9. Question is, do I go for the cheaper one with 16GB or the more expensive one with 32GB of ram?

WOOHOOOO! My biggest beef with the Cowon was the lack of gapless playback. I mostly listen to live shows from taper friendly artists so playlists weren't as important to me but gapless playback was. (At the time I bought my Cowon, rockbox did not support it directly).

(I also love the battery life of my D2 for both audio and video...far surpasses any other player I've had). Off to go look at the S9

Sorry

Anyway, to bring it back on topic, I don't see listening to music on my ebook reader because its not specialized enough to replace my PMP, nor does it try to be.

these new versions, whilst they may be good for prising open the market a bit more if they are cheaper, wont be leading me to ditch my 500 anytime soon.

Shocking!

(Albeit quite possibly proof positive of Boston's point.)

My 500 is sitting on a shelf unused. It is still perfectly fine. I keep wondering if I should sell it or maybe even give it away.
