Last night I caught up with my paranormal shows after my vacation and some YouTube videos.

Tonight I'm going to watch the latest episodes of The Staircase and We Own This city and finish catching up on my YouTube videos.

We Own This City is done by the same folks who did The Wire, so of course, it's got brilliant moments, but DAMN, it's some depressing s**t.

I watched two or three seasons of The Wire years ago. It's a good series, but I never continued. It's available on HBO now, so I might watch half a season in between other things. I've always wanted to finish it, but what you said, it's depressing.

On Friday the first half of season 4 of Stranger Things is released. I found a recap of the first three seasons on YouTube, so I'll have to watch that today or tomorrow.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the first season of the new Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. I never read the books, so I can't offer any opinions on if they stuck to the subject matter (or didn't), but I found the actor who played Mikey Haller to be quite engaging. Though other than Haller and Maggie McPherson (played by Neve Campbell), no other characters really jumped out. Haller's investigator, Cisco, was quite atrocious in fact (you know that fake gravelly voice that people mistakenly think sounds cool and enigmatic?). Thankfully, the 10 episodes are quite Haller-centric.

It's funny you mention that--Mr. H and I have just (as of last night) started watching that. And yes, we're pretty pleasantly surprised by it, too. (I'm a bit underwhelmed with all the fam-drama, but then again, I always am.)

FYI, that actor? The investigator, Cisco? AFAIK, that's his voice. In every single thing in which I've seen him and interviews, that appears to be his actual voice. (shrug).

Huh. I would've bet money it was an affectation. Can't recall seeing him in anything else. Oh well. Guess he gets a pass on that voice, then!

I'm getting ready to start the 3rd and final season of Tin Star on Prime Video. Loved the 1st season, but couldn't make heads or tails of the second. I'm typically a fan of Tim Roth's work, but S2 was just out-there whackadoodle bizarre. Hoping for a stronger finish.

I finished season 4, volume 1 of Stranger Things on Sunday, I loved it, now I have to wait another four and a half weeks before the final two episodes of this season.

Last night I wanted to start the second season of Evil, it's available on the streaming service of our cable TV company. But I couldn't because my access point isn't connected to the router of the cable company but to the other router we have (cable TV subscription comes with internet, but not a secure line we need for our card payment machine for the store, so we have a second internet/phone line with another company). Not sure if that is something new or because of my new Chromecast.

Instead I watched two bad horror films. The first one had really bad acting and although the story itself could have worked it didn't. The second one was just boring, the acting was okay though. It seems Netflix recently acquired a bunch of crappy horror movies and it keeps telling me that I will like those. I've seen a lot of crappy horror I liked well enough, they have redeeming factors. But the new ones on Netflix I've seen so far have no redeeming factors.

Rewatching an old sitcom from way back on my streaming device; 'Soap' which is a spoof of soaps in itself! Interesting to see a young Billy Crystal in it, and the marvellous physical humour of Richard Mulligan! Loved it at the time, and it still (mostly) stands up!

My favorite part of Soap was Chuck and Bob - the other characters would get into heated arguments with Bob - in one scene they all get wasted at a bar and stick Bob with the tab. The alien Burt episodes were pretty funny too.

We watched Bosch: Legacy over the weekend. They cut the cast way down so didn't need all the throwaway filler story lines that plagued the old version. But now Honey Chandler and Maddie have major roles and both got tiresome for me. Still a decent show, but could be so much better.

Oh, the Maddie story lines started to really put me off in the original Bosch, too. Don't care. Can't abide the character; don't believe she'd become a cop if you paid her a million bucks to do it. Glad to know this so I don't waste time on Legacy, especially since Amazon thinks it's appropriate to force me to sit through adverts for it. (Deranged thinking, IMHO.)

We're re-watching Stranger Things, Seasons 1-3, as Mr. H can't remember a damned thing about it, before we watch S. 4. I've been watching Signora Volpe, on Acorn, which is a very soft cozy mystery series; the MC is a bit of a Mary Sue, but hey....it's okay. I could live without it, if it ceased, but it's a nice bit of time filler. Runs in the background whilst I'm reading.

Oh, also watching Joe Pickett. Trying to decide now in...episode 3? 4? If I like it or not. The lead character is so diffident it's hard to decide. I get that that's how CJ Box wrote him, and in the novels, it's explained far better--but on the screen, it just comes off as lacking affect.

Given the dearth of anything really terrific on, starting to seriously consider binging Bab5.

To be fair, the FreeTV Bosch ads are VERY short - don't let that dissuade you. Maddie was never a major character in the books, and considering that Bosch was in Viet Nam, not Afghanistan as in Legacy, and Maddie was a result of his first book marriage to Eleanor Wish, the Maddie in 2022 Legacy would be far older. The actress is cute, and I admire any young actress who eschews breast enhancement as her primary career strategy, but she just doesn't seem to have that much to offer compared to the someone like the utterly fabulous Kaitlyn Dever in Justified.

Joe Pickett is a series? I read the 1st 2 on a recommendation from a fellow Jack Reacher fan and may continue it in the future but so far no Reacher by any stretch of the imagination. But then I wasn't that impressed with Reacher at first either, abandoning midway through book 4 but then going back to it and finishing the series. When Amazon replaced the ludicrous Tom Cruise as Reacher it was a fun series to watch too.

I'm with you on trying to "support" non-enhanced young ladies. I was in the fashion biz, a lifetime (almost literally) ago and resisted the pressure myself, so...but damn, that girl seems exceedingly limited. I mean, she has two facial expressions and that's it.

Yes, let's see, it's on Paramount Plus (Pickett). I'm not overly wild about it yet, but so far, not bad. It's obviously trying to capitalize on the wild success of Yellowstone and trying to reach that audience, which apparently, was a lot lot LOT bigger than Hollyweird expected. (ha.)

Reacher--what can anybody say? Right on the heels of the Rain series, the first really big competence-porn hit and then...TOM FREAKING CRUISE? I mean, gimme a break. In my younger fitter days, no kidding, I could have taken him. Much less envision him as REACHER. I *mostly* like the guy that Amazon cast although I would have gone for a rangier Reacher, not quite so Gold's Gym. But, hey, at least he was big. Big enough to make Reacher's behavior viable. (And the reactions of those around him comprehensible, too.)

Ah, well. Maybe (speaking of Cruise), his big new runaway hit will inspire some new series. Stranger things have happened, amirite?

After Stranger Things I couldn't find anything I was really in the mood for. I watched a couple of okay movies and tried the second season of Evil, which just wasn't what I wanted to watch. I saw there was a new season of The Floor is Lava on Netflix, so I watched that, which is always fun.

Then I saw that Netflix has several seasons of both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med. I watched the first season of Fire a long while ago and although I enjoyed it but never continued for whatever reason. I decided to go with Med, and that hit the spot. I chose Med over Fire because I just love Oliver Platt. I'll finish the first season and then continue on with the second season of Fire.

This morning Tenacious D (Jack Black's band) uploaded a video of their medley of The Who, which were all songs from Tommy. The accompanying video is an ode the 1975 movie. I loved it and brought back memories.

Which also made me realize that it's been a long time since I've seen it that it's time for a rewatch. I also decided it's time for me to finally watch Quadrophenia. Which made me think of the musical which I like but haven't seen a while (The Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror Picture Show) and other that I've always wanted to watch (The Labyrinth, Repo! A Genetic Opera, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny). So next week will be musical week.

And the week after it'll be 1990s week, because it's time for another rewatch of The Silence of the Lambs, The Three Musketeers, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves amongst others.

I'll have to find the ones I have on DVD and hunt down the others on streaming services.

Any suggestions on either category are welcome, of course.

I'll bite--which TTM? (n.b.: I've put a moratorium on re-reading TTM. When I read it, as it's the "real thing," it completely ruins my ability to enjoy the rather rollicking action-adventure movies that are...well, sort-of, kinda adapted therefrom.)

Do you mean the Sheen/Sutherland/O'Donnell/Platt version?

If you like that, which presumably you do, you may well like "The Man in the Iron Mask," the one with Depardieu, DiCaprio, Irons, Byrne and...I'm forgetting someone...ah, yes, Malkovich.
