just a few questions survey style if you feel to answer please.

1) essentially how many times a month do you need to recharge your kobo one (wi-fi off)?
2) is the battery duration perfectly acceptable for you?
3) we assumed that the low battery duration has nothing to concern with any manufacturing defect: are your happy with your buy and would you suggest it to your friends?

thx!

g, I usually recharge when battery percent gets to the 50 - 75% range. Totally off-the-wall guesstimate is recharge after 8 - 10 hours of reading.

I was charging every couple of days.
I would NOT recommend to a friend
Replaced the Kobo with Kindle Voyage
Battery lasts a weeks.
I can side load all my books and have them sync with the iPad, iPhone.
I'm happy and not reading this forum more then I was reading the Kobo

Just came back from a 14-day holiday. I had to charge my reader twice*, with heavy reading, whenever I could (which was most of the days, cruising the Atlantic and Pacific coasts).

*actually, 4 times, see below.

I noticed one thing though. I never updated my firmware, so I still have the original battery bug (which will drain your battery within a few hours). I never had it happen before, this time I did. I decided to charge my device after it reached about 20%. The next morning it was full, so I started to read in the evening again. And found the reader empty to 6%. And that's without reading!

So, I used a few precious internet minutes to search this forum for the auto-sync line, connected my reader to my tablet, and updated the file. And was able to read again for a week again.

So, after a week (and 3 more books), my battery was getting flat again, so I charged it again overnight. Same problem as before: the next afternoon it was empty again. I checked the config file and the setting was still there. So, I charged again, and could finish 2 more books. But then a pattern started to show itself and I started to think back...

I never charge my reader using a wall charger. I always use my PC.
It started draining fast after I used a wall charger. It drained normally after I had it attached to my tablet. The same for the second time. So, when we were almost at our destination, I decided to charge the reader a last time (using the wall charger) and then simply connect it to my tablet, just to connect. It now drains normally again.

Very interesting...I don't know why connecting your reader via wall charger would cause it to behave differently. Interesting that just connecting to your computer/tablet via USB seems to solve the problem.

For me, I always charge via a wall charger. The only time I have my reader hooked up to the computer is when I'm adding books to it. I have not ever had the battery drain problem--with the original firmware or my current version 4.2.8432 (knock on wood!). My reader is always in airplane mode--so maybe this is the difference. I connected once via wi-fi to register the reader and since then it has constantly been in airplane mode.

Ya, mine is pretty much always charged via wall plug except what little charge it gets when I happen to have it plugged in to computer do something with it (which is not very often). If anything I'd have said it happened when I plugged it into the computer, but I've only ever had it happen about twice so any possible cause/effect I've seen I'd have to call co-incidence.

If you want sympathy for a problem, that is not the way to start

When you charge using the PC, do you always let it connect to the PC? And did the wall charger prompt you about this? That's the only difference I can think of, whether the device actually connected to the PC or not. When it does, a process is on the device run to unmount and mount the drive. And it doesn't different things if you say no to the connection. All this could have different affects afterwards.

But I need sympathy! The trip is over and it's only 4 degrees celcius here, instead of the 24-28 over there

I usually connect my reader to my PC, put any new books on it, then disconnect (leaving the reader connected to the PC). That way any re-indexation that will take place will not drain the battery. After that, I'll usually just leave the reader connected to the PC until it's full.

The wall charger didn't give any messages (only one wall charger at home does that), it just started charging. After a few hours, I disconnected and a few hours later it was empty. So, the second time, again no connection message, full charge, connect to my tablet for a few minutes, update the file, disconnect. And a week of reading time again. The third time, same as the first, charge, discharge quickly. The fourth time, I just charged, connected and disconnected almost immediately, just to see if it worked. And it did... Didn't have the time to experiment further, naturally, as there were whales to be seen

Hmm, that sounds like there is something going on with the non-PC connection. I'll have to experiment.

This was at sea, in February, so the end of the "cool" dry season

Now that my jet-lag is in the manageable position, I might see if I can reproduce it. Also, having a PC instead of only an 8" tablet makes it a bit easier too...
