It's probably a good one. I didn't know anything about the book (for one thing, I am not into fiction at all), but the book has excellent ratings. That's one of the main reasons that I posted it.

$2.95 -- Dream Year -- Ben Arment -- read by Sean Pratt (7.7 hrs)

Quote:
Business > Career Skills

Somewhere along your road to adulthood, you pushed your dreams to the side. You had to pay bills. You feared taking a risk on yourself. And so you settled into an unfulfilling, perhaps even unpleasant career. If it's any comfort, you’re far from alone; 66 percent of Americans hate their jobs.

But what if someone could guide you, step-by-step, as you identify, plan, and launch your dream career - in just one year. That's what Ben Arment does in his transformative coaching class, which has helped hundreds of people reinvent their lives to enjoy greater enthusiasm and fulfillment while also making a living.

Now he's sharing his best insights, advice, and inspiring true stories in Dream Year. You'll find out how people just like you are discovering (or rediscovering) what they were truly born to do, then following a proven process to make it real. And you'll meet men and women such as…

Chuck Templeton, who created an online reservation system, OpenTable, that now serves more than thirty thousand restaurants worldwide.

Katie Strandlund, who launched her own event-planning business and developed a full and deeply gratifying client list.

Fabien Riggall, who combined his love for film and theater into a unique experience called Secret Cinema, which has reached 120,000 people.

Hilary Barnett, who started a social media company that now employs several team members and creates content for national brands.

$4.99 -- You Can't Make This Up -- A Michaels, LJ Wertheim -- read by A Michaels, R Porter (9.9 hrs)

Quote:
Bios & Memoirs > Celebrities

No sportscaster has covered more major sporting events than Al Michaels—the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup Final—as well as the Olympic Games, Triple Crown, and many more. He has witnessed firsthand some of the most memorable events in sports, and in this highly personal and entertaining account, brings them all vividly to life.

Michaels's stories cover unforgettable chapters over the past half century—from the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics' "Miracle on Ice" to the earthquake that rocked the 1989 World Series to the drama of what many consider the most exciting Super Bowl ever—Super Bowl XLIII between the Steelers and Cardinals. Some of the biggest personalities on and off the field are here—Brett Favre, John Madden, Tiger Woods, Cris Collinsworth, and many more. Complementing access with insight, Michaels adds to the stories you thought you knew: Michael Jordan's eyesight; Howard Cosell's prickly, bombastic personality; even Peyton and Eli Manning's sibling rivalry.

From start to finish, Michaels gives us an up-close portrait of an industry that is—today more than ever—a vital part of our national culture.

FREE Audio of a Series of Four Talks by N.T. Wright on "Hope in a Hopeless World."

NoiseTrade is currently offering a free audio of series of four talks by N.T. Wright entitled "Hope in a Hopeless World."

Most of us are familiar, at least, with NoiseTrade. The way that it works is that they ask for a tip for their ebook and audio offerings. But, you don't have to leave one if you don't want to. That's true of this audio. You do have to have an account with them, however.

Here's the blurb about the audio:
How do we live with true hope as Christians in the world?

Author and teacher N.T. Wright explores the hope we have in Christ and its implications for today, in four talks originally given at MacQuarie University in Sydney:
- The Confusion About Hope in the Contemporary World & the Contemporary Church
- The Resurrection of Jesus as the Ground Plan & Energizing Force of Christian Hope
- How Do You Think Through & Express the New Testament Vision of the Christian Hope?
- If We Have That Hope, How Does it Affect Us Here & Now?

I haven't listened to the audio, yet, so I don't know for sure how good the talks are. However, I have read after (and listened to) Wright some in the past. I know that 1) he is a popular writer in his genre, 2) he is a well-respected scholar, and 3) he writes and speaks in an engaging way in simple language that is easy to understand. Here is NoiseTrade's blurb about him with some additional information:
N. T. Wright is Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and was formerly Bishop of Durham in England. His books include The Challenge of Jesus, Surprised by Hope, The New Testament for Everyone series, and Paul and the Faithfulness of God.

Here's the link. Here's a link to all of the audiobooks and ebooks at NoiseTrade that are available for download at the present time.

Happy listening.

You often get a discount off the "Regular Price," but it usually isn't as low as the "Member Price." I currently have 1 account that is LL and one that is regular - here are some price comparisons (from the Best Sellers list).

The Martian
Reg Price: 29.99
Mem Price: 20.99
LL Price: 26.95

Nightwise
Reg Price: 24.95
Mem Price: 17.46
LL Price: 21.95

The Girl on the Train
Reg Price: 28.00
Mem Price: 19.60
LL Price: 23.95

Some books, such as the Harry Potter series, give NO discount for LL members. Other books, such as 11-22-63: A Novel, give LL the same price as other members.

Thanks, the comparisons were very helpful. It seems like the only worthwhile thing about the $10 LL membership is the chance to take part in the members-only sales. Well, that and the ability to take your time about using up credits already accumulated.

FREE -- Teach Us To Want -- Jen Pollock Michel -- read by Karyn O'Bryant (7.3 hrs)

Quote:
As Christians, we’re squeamish about desire. Isn’t wanting sinful and selfish? Aren’t we supposed to find and follow God’s will rather than insisting upon our own? The story of each person is a story of want—desires unmet, hopes dashed, passions pursued and ambitions fulfilled. Our wants cannot be ignored. But when desire is informed by Scripture and re-formed by our spiritual practices, it can root us more deeply in the fundamental belief that God is good and generous and can invite us into active kingdom participation. Jen Pollock Michel guides us on a journey of understanding who we are when we want, and reintroduces us to a God who gives us the desires of our hearts. That same good God calls us into a new reality in which we seek first his kingdom and righteousness, and we discover our disordered desires burned away while our truest longings are happily fulfilled and purified. The disciples asked Jesus to "Teach us to pray." This book asks, "Teach us to want."

To me the LL is invaluable, because it allows me to purchase a Platinum Annual membership and then take 3 years to spend the credits (2 years of LL). It only works out to about $1 less per book than Platinum Monthly, but I like having all my credits up front and not having a rollover limit. That way, I can spend them (or not) when I want.

$1.95 -- A Room of One's Own -- Virginia Woolf -- read by Juliet Stevenson (5.0 hrs)

Quote:
Bios & Memoirs > Artists, Writers, & Musicians

A Room of One's Own, based on a lecture given at Girton College Cambridge, is one of the great feminist polemics. Woolf's blazing polemic on female creativity, the role of the writer, and the silent fate of Shakespeare's imaginary sister remains a powerful reminder of a woman's need for financial independence and intellectual freedom.

$19.49 -- All Involved -- Ryan Gattis -- read by Anthony Rey Perez, et al (11.7 hrs)

Note: this book is priced rather high, but is available as a Whispersync deal for $12.99 if you already own the Kindle book ($13.99) or borrow it from an OverDrive library (free).

Quote:
Mysteries & Thrillers > Suspense

A propulsive and ambitious novel as electrifying as The Wire, from a writer hailed as the West Coast's Richard Price—a mesmerizing epic of crime and opportunity, race, revenge, and loyalty, set in the chaotic streets of South Central L.A. in the wake of one of the most notorious and incendiary trials of the 1990s

At 3:15 p.m. on April 29, 1992, a jury acquitted three white Los Angeles Police Department officers charged with using excessive force to subdue a black man named Rodney King, and failed to reach a verdict on the same charges involving a fourth officer. Less than two hours later, the city exploded in violence that lasted six days. In nearly 121 hours, fifty-three lives were lost. But there were even more deaths unaccounted for: violence that occurred outside of active rioting sites by those who used the chaos to viciously settle old scores.

A gritty and cinematic work of fiction, All Involved vividly re-creates this turbulent and terrifying time, set in a sliver of Los Angeles largely ignored by the media during the riots. Ryan Gattis tells seventeen interconnected first-person narratives that paint a portrait of modern America itself—laying bare our history, our prejudices, and our complexities. With characters that capture the voices of gang members, firefighters, graffiti kids, and nurses caught up in these extraordinary circumstances, All Involved is a literary tour de force that catapults this edgy writer into the ranks of such legendary talents as Dennis Lehane and George V. Higgins.

$0.99 -- Proto Zoa -- Lois McMaster Bujold -- read by Grover Gardner (3.6 hrs)

Quote:
Fiction > Fantasy

A delightful collection of Lois McMaster Bujold’s early stories and a comprehensive introduction by this New York Times bestselling author
“Protozoa” is a word from biology via the Greek meaning “first animals.” These short stories were indeed among the first life spontaneously generated in Lois McMaster Bujold’s nascent writing career. Along with an introduction by the author, this collection features the short stories “Barter,” “Garage Sale,” “The Hole Truth,” “Dreamweaver’s Dilemma,” and “Aftermaths.”
