Just got an email from Audible with a 3-for-2 (Credits) offer covering 150 books. I do have 3 credits ready to be baked in a pie, but it's also showing on the front page... off to shop!
ETA: tag line for the sale: "Their books captured major awards: from Pulitzers to Audies, Ritas to Hugos" Last edited by Piepan; 03-08-2015 at 11:42 AM. Reason: adding more info |

It's killing me that all the new member promos are just for new members again. I was getting spoiled for a while there.

Get In the Kingdom of the Sick Audiobook, via a Whispersync Deal, for Only $4.98!
You can get the audiobook In the Kingdom of the Sick: A Social History of Chronic Illness in America for only $4.98 as a Whispersync companion deal. It's a $15.95 (1 credit) audiobook if you buy it straight out at Audible!
Can you tell that I'm excited? I love saving Mobileread people money! Here's the book description for the ebook (courtesy of Amazon.com): Thirty years ago, Susan Sontag wrote, "Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship in the kingdom of the well and the kingdom of the sick ... Sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place." Now more than 133 million Americans live with chronic illness, accounting for nearly three-quarters of all health care dollars, and untold pain and disability. There has been an alarming rise in illnesses that defy diagnosis through clinical tests or have no known cure. Millions of people, especially women, with illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pain, and chronic fatigue syndrome face skepticism from physicians and the public alike. And people with diseases as varied as cardiovascular disease, HIV, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes have been accused of causing their preventable illnesses through their lifestyle choices. We must balance our faith in medical technology with awareness of the limits of science, and confront our throwback beliefs that people who are sick have weaker character than those who are well. Through research and patient narratives, health writer Laurie Edwards explores patient rights, the role of social media in medical advocacy, the origins of our attitudes about chronic illness, and much more. What The Noonday Demon did for people suffering from depression, In the Kingdom of the Sick does for those who are chronically ill. The Kindle/mobi ebook is rated 4 1/2 stars, from 20 reviews at the present moment. The Audible audiobook is rated 4 stars, but from only 4 ratings at the present moment. The audio runs just short of 9 hours. The narrator is Holly Fielding. You know the drill to get the deal. START HERE (no, I'm not shouting, I'm just trying to get your attention! ha): buy the $1.99 ebook at Amazon. Then on the book's webpage click on one of the links for the Audible audiobook to get it for $2.99 (alternately, you can go to the Audible webpage for the book and get it there; the price will have automatically adjusted itself for you to $2.99). Bingo and Presto Chango! You've got the audiobook for a total cost of just $4.98! What you do with the ebook is your business, but if you decide that you want to read it, you can have it automatically sync up with your audiobook. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-11-2015 at 12:50 AM. |

Master Evernote--Visually or Orally or Both. A $2.98 Whispersync Companion Deal!
Due to the overwhelming, positive response from my last Whispersync companion post (hahahaha), I am posting another one now. The total cost (audiobook & Whispersync'd ebook) of this deal is $2.98.
It's for Master Evernote: The Unofficial Guide to Organizing Your Life with Evernote (Plus 75 Ideas for Getting Started), by S.J. Scott. Here's how the math works out to make this deal. The Kindle/mobi ebook is just $0.99 at the present moment. After you buy that ebook, you can pair up the corresponding audiobook (you can do it on the same webpage as that for the ebook or follow this link) for just $1.99. Total for the whole deal--only $2.98. The price for the audiobook, alone, if purchased directly from Audible? $6.95. It's very unusual to find an audio "how-to" book (But I've seen one or two audio cookbooks)! But, I suppose if you learn better orally than you do visually (free advice: it's important that you know which one of those is true for you), this might be a good thing. I've been wanting to learn to use Evernote for a long time, but just haven't done it. I've bought this Whispersync companion deal myself, though, and hope that by listening to the audiobook in spare moments I can pick up enough that I can get started using Evernote. The ebook is highly-rated, with 4 1/2 stars, from 162 reviews at the present moment. The rating for the audiobook (which includes the narration) is 4.2/5.0, from 33 ratings at the present moment. The audio runs 2 hours and 43 minutes. It is narrated by Greg Zarcone; I've listened to a portion of the audio and the narration sounds fine. Here's a direct link to the Master Evernote page at Audible, should you want to read more about the audiobook. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-12-2015 at 02:23 AM. |

Um. You don't need a book to learn to use evernote. Really, you don't. It's very intuitive.
There, saved you some money. |

![]() I thought that it would be pretty easy to learn. A piece of software doesn't get to be as popular as EverNote is when it has a steep learning curve. Still, I think that listening to the audio will help me to "hit the ground running." The only reason that I bought the book was to get the cheap audiobook. Actually all software that I have learned to use, I pretty much did it by just "picking it up" (I had the good fortune of not having been required to learn any of them quickly). If I had instruction books I rarely used them; I didn't use the "help" files much either. If it was so difficult that I had to study books to learn it, I just chucked the software. There was, for example a Geos desktop publishing program that ran on my Commodore 64 eons ago (those were definitely not the "good ole days"!). Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 03-13-2015 at 10:52 PM. |

Tantor Audio's Newest $6.99 Download Sale.
Tantor Audio commonly has sales on downloads for $6.99. In case you do not get Tantor Audio/Tantor Media's mailings, I want to let you know that another one of these sales has just started and runs through 3/20/15.
This present sale includes "new releases" and "over 3000 titles" (that seems like more than usual). A "heads up." This bit of information is not really about digital products, although you can do a conversion to digital with the right software . . . . While briefly perusing some of the sale titles, I noticed a title in the CD format for only $2.99. Most of the non-download formats cost more, in many cases much more, than the downloads. There may be many more of these ultra-cheap CDs, you'll just have to look around and/or do a search if you're interested in those. Here's a link that you can follow to get to a webpage for the audiobooks. |

Whispersync Companion Deal on Long/Large, Highly-Rated Bio of John Wooden--$5.98.
This is a biography of John Wooden, the extremely successful longtime basketball coach at UCLA.
Mobilereaders do not impress me as being interested much in sports. However, this should be a good listen/read even to people not interested in sports, because Wooden has a lot to say about being successful in life as well as in basketball. His words are inspirational. The book is A Coach's Life. By Seth Davis. Book Description (from Amazon) No college basketball coach has ever dominated the sport like John Wooden. His UCLA teams reached unprecedented heights in the 1960s and '70s capped by a run of ten NCAA championships in twelve seasons and an eighty-eight-game winning streak, records that stand to this day. Wooden also became a renowned motivational speaker and writer, revered for his "Pyramid of Success." Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports has written the definitive biography of Wooden, an unflinching portrait that draws on archival research and more than two hundred interviews with players, opponents, coaches, and even Wooden himself. Davis shows how hard Wooden strove for success, from his All-American playing days at Purdue through his early years as a high school and college coach to the glory days at UCLA, only to discover that reaching new heights brought new burdens and frustrations. Davis also reveals how at the pinnacle of his career Wooden found himself on questionable ground with alumni, referees, assistants, and even some of his players. His was a life not only of lessons taught, but also of lessons learned. Woven into the story as well are the players who powered Wooden's championship teams - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Walt Hazzard, and others - many of whom speak frankly about their coach. The portrait that emerges from Davis's remarkable biography is of a man in full, whose life story still resonates today. Info on the Ebook and Audiobook The ebook: $2.99. Rated 4 1/2 stars, from 153 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $18.99; digital list(?) price $9.99; Kindle price now $2.99. Times Books, publisher. 608 pages. The audiobook: $2.99. Rated 4.40 at Audible. Running time: 26 hours and 6 minutes. Narrator: Stephen McLaughlin. The price for the audiobook alone, at Audible, is $34.95! Additional information on the audiobook, at Audible. How to Get the Deal Buy the ebook for $2.99 at http://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Coachs-...coach%27s+life.
