That problem had me baffled. The PC and its drivers shouldn't have mattered. But, Kobo must have had a change at that firmware version to affect this. I just don't remember being able to see it. Hopefully the newer machines won't have a problem.

I at first thought it was also a combination of a possible WinXP update that happened as well since those continually keep coming and no one really keeps track of them. But that going back to 2.4.0 worked flawlessly and let me keep sending multiple books in the same session on the same PC even with whatever updates to WinXP that might have happened, without ever seeing that error pop up ever again, convinced me it it was something on Kobo's end. I had tried whatever various different USB drivers were posted to help at times with no luck.

davidfor: Thanks, I know this, and I also asume it should cause no problem, it worked on 3.5.0, but on 3.8.0 and 3.11.0 after copying many new books (factory reset ) the device reads all my books, then I get an empty library. After reboot it reads every title correctly, without collections information. And in some of the cases the database gets corrupt, and in case of trying to repair it, all information is deleted, the only viable solution is putting back the backup. (Strange is, I just re-checked it, and saw even loading book information after reboot, my collections are there. So currently I have no problem )

Koreader and others: I use Save to disc for these books to a hidden folder, as with 7 thousand books the search feature is anyway slow. But in 3.11 the epub reader seems quicker, with the patch quite useable, only highlighting is painfully slow, so I returned to stock reader it seems .

I had a look the other day and saw it wasn't working. After a bit of fiddling, I concluded that Kobo had changed something, and we were out of luck.

Today, I was looking at something completely unrelated and had moment. No, make that a moment. Kobo have changed something, but, it is obvious what is happening. And it is easy to handle. And it looks like it will prevent the Sync tile from showing up.

I'll have an update to the plugin out in the next couple of days.

is there a reason why the features mentioned in this thread:

• Page number display options in reading settings
  • Display per book or chapter. Per chapter only works for kepubs.
  • Display as page number, percent read or time remaining (kepubs only) in footer.
  • Affects slider in navigation bar for kepubs. If per chapter, slider is for the chapter. If per book, slider is for the complete book and chapter title is not displayed.

does not work for me? I have 3.11.0 (4d8eac1207, 2014/10/16) but nothing of these options appears in the settings menu.

Any ideas?

It may be that your affiliate has disabled some features. The usual suspects for this are Rakuten and FNAC.You could try to change your affiliate by editing the .kobo/affiliate.conf file and changing it to Kobo, but it might reset back to the original affiliate after a firmware upgrade.

Edit: It could also be that the UI is set to Japanese? There were some changes in this firmware that make the device behave differently when the UI or book is set to a locale for the Japanese language.

Indeed indeed, I have changed the locale to English and now the options appear.

Interestingly, it is *only* the UI that changes. After adjusting the options, switching the language back to Japanese, the options are still in effect.

Thanks a lot - I didn't know that the UI language has effect on functionality - very strange.

I had completely forgot about this, but, Kobo removed the annotation option from the menu when reading PDF in 3.11.0. But, they didn't take away the ability to create a bookmark. There are two ways to get to them. From the tile and from the library list. If you long press on a book in the library, the menu will have an "Annotations" option if the book has annotations.

As to the percent into the book, that has been broken for a long time. The percent is recorded correctly, but if an epub or PDF is on the main memory, when it is reopened, the percent will be set to zero. But, sorting the annotations by location should work correctly. It does for epubs, but I haven't tested PDFs recently.
