All sorted thank you David. On closer inspection, I'd seen the koboroot.tgz as a zipped file and had unzipped that too.
After seeing your last message, I realised that I should have just moved it as it was.
The Mini has come back to life and I've synced all my books.
Many thanks again for your expertise and patience.

Good to hear it is working. I was wondering if you were on a MAC and it unpacked the koboroot.tgz automatically. The MAC's tendency to unpack files has caused a lot of problems like this.

Hey Davidfor. My Kobo Mini SD card died after almost 10 years of usage and I'd like to restore it on a new SD card. Would much appreciate if you could send me the Kobo Mini image file link as well

Hi David.

Similar to many posts, I recently got a Kobo Mini which gets stuck on the 'Searching for Update' screen. Is it possible to get an image to transfer to a new SD card? PMs look to be enabled on my account, hopefully it'll work

@DangOldKobo: The image is unlikely to do anything. If you can get to a point where the device is searching for an update, then it is working. The image will put the device back to the factory reset state and need updates before you can do anything. There shouldn't be an update to find, but, the sync process doesn't update the syncing status enough to show this. From what I have been seeing lately, it might be stuck doing the collection sync. It could also be a corrupt database causing issues.

Just doing a sign-out of you Kobo account is probably enough to fix things. But, that will mean losing the reading status and annotations for sideloaded books.
