I am quite happy that with 2.8.1 the Linux Libertine and Biolinum fonts I installed on my Aura finally are properly displayed.

It has been since day 1. All you need do is to select the checkbox "Attempt to support newer firmware" in the driver configuration.
Trust me, if ever the time comes that a Kobo uograde is NOT compatible, someone will have posted big warnings here cautioning all of the incompatibility. |

Hi
I have been quite critic these last weeks, mainly about what I perceived to be failed firmware updates beginning with 2.5.2. I must say that Kobo seems to have a devious knack for frustrating people. But, I feel reasonably happy now with 2.8.1. My most important grudge (top-margin for reading) is really gone. Overall process is snappier. Embedded font problems are receding into oblivion. Of course the long paragraph bug is still here, some taps are cumbersome (light settings), tiles are ugly and some of them are really useless for me but this time, I feel we moved a little upwards and honesty compels me to say it. I can read pleasantly (mind... mostly without endnotes). Last edited by roger64; 07-28-2013 at 01:05 PM. |

on this one, on a sideloaded kepub (I haven't had the problem otherwise for a long time) it went away when I accidentally reduced the font size one notch - maybe it is just a coincidence, but I thought I'd report it just in case.

From what I can tell it's triggered by a combination of factors. Typically when you do encounter it changing the font size will fix the immediate one, but it doesn't guarantee you won't run into it again even if you remain at this font size.

So is the Kobo touch not being updated anymore?

And so people know. Kobo do have a beta firmware program. I am part of that. When a new beta comes out, testing calibre with it is the third thing I do. That's after checking to see if they have fixed any of my "favourite" bugs and seeing what new things they have added. If I find something wrong, I fix it as quickly as I can or when I think the change has settled in the firmware. Same goes with new things. Happily, most of the changes Kobo make don't break the calibre driver. In nearly all cases it will work unchanged and any changes needed are to take advantage of something new. This means I usually know if there is going to be a problem when the firmware is released. And I usually have code ready to be checked in when it is. Sometimes I will check the code in before the firmware release if I don't think that will cause other problems. I'll admit that one of the problems I want to avoid is answering the question "Calibre supports firmware x, where is it?". And I especially don't want to answer that question if there is a real change. Which is why the code changes for the next firmware won't be checked in until the firmware is released ![]() |

I didn't think that was ever a bug with kepubs. The long paragraph bug is only when reading an epub with the ADE (or whatever it is called) based renderer. kepubs, whether purchased or sideloaded, use a different renderer that doesn't have this problem.

I really like this firmware, so far I had no problems, and it seems to be a bit faster and more responsive than the one before, almost every time that I was in a book and wanted to go to the home I had to tap the home button several times, very annoying. Also I like the new look off the menus, and that each page contains more shelves.

The 'long paragraph bug' can be reproduced quite easily with short paragraphs and large font sizes. It seems to show up if there is less than about 3/4 screen available for the new paragraph, and the new paragraph requires more than the available space. I'm guessing it tries to fit things a whole block at a time instead of a line at a time.
