Use two open windows so you can put your original and my correction side by side to view the differences. These are really good compositions and clever ideas. In most instances, I feel that the problem is in the lighting, and in the case of the boat, also in positioning of the subject. I can see what you are trying to get with the photo of the boat, but there just isn't quite enough mist or fog to get the effect I think you want. Close, but not quite. Maybe an hour or two earlier in the morning would have worked... I can brighten it up easily in Photoshop, but I don't think that's what you were trying for. I also removed the white boat that was distracting my eye, and changed the placement of the subject. I usually don't like the subject directly in the middle of the frame. (Look up "Rule of Thirds") The result looks like this, but again, I think you wanted a much foggier pic. That would be nicer! Remember, a pro photographer may shoot several HUNDRED photos of a subject to get the ONE good shot! This is especially true of all outdoor photography, where the photographer can't control the lighting and environment the way that's possible inside a studio. The photo of the rock island is a nice composition, but again, the lighting was wrong when you took the photo. Not your fault or the fault of the camera. Even the water is greenish looking as a result of a dead sky. For photo corrections, I selected ONLY the rock island out of the rest of the photo, and adjusted the 'histogram' (Look it up! It's a VERY important tool for photo corrections) to adjust the levels of black, white, and midtones. I also increased the vibrance (not the saturation) of the rock, and sharpened it just a bit. Now it looks like this. ( For a magazine layout, I would have added in a sky shot on a different day!) The night photo is great!!! And low light photography is the most difficult of all shooting to make right! You did a great job on this one. All I did as corrections was again to use the histogram to adjust levels, added a touch more contrast and sharpening to make this... You really can't see any difference until you put them side by side. Oh... and I added black frames to most of the photos. These serve to keep the viewer's eyes inside the picture! Picture number 4 was simply a matter of adjusting the light. Again, you need to use the histogram to get the full benefit of white and black. Your original was clipped at both ends of the scale... neither white enough nor black enough. I assumed that the top of plastic shopping bags were white and used them to correct the rest of the lighting. Using a histogram will give you an accurate measuring scale to use when adjusting levels. Does your program give you access to the histogram? If not, USE ANOTHER PROGRAM!!! It IS that important! Here's the corrected photo.... Your photography is really, really good. You have a very good eye for a photo. Just keep in mind that nature doesn't always give you the lighting that you need or want. Remember that you don't get a great photo by taking one single shot (until you really reach the 'artist' level.) You need to shoot a lot. You've seen videos or adverts of professional photographers shooting fashion models, right? They don't just take a picture. They take hundreds of pictures and choose one. THEN they correct that one! What's the difference between an amateur photographer and a professional photographer? Spoiler:

![]() This program I'm using doesn't let me adjust the histogram These are some options:The sharpness; Contrast; Brightness; Highlight protection and shadow protection; D-Lighting HS (I'm not sure what difference this makes, though); Color booster (and some other miscellaneous details.) I can adjust them seperately. But the effects are on all of the photo, I cannot choose one or two objects of the action. So I think they cannot bring the same result, yes? ![]() (The Rule of thirds is new to me! Thanks especially for that (and every other tip)! Now I know why some digital cameras' screens have the grid on when I play with the menu! )Now, one last thing... I can't see anything from imageshack Would you please upload them to another page? Pretty, pretty please?

I was just looking at all the NEW stuff available for GIMP that I wasn't even aware of! You can use a LOT of the original Photoshop filters with it, there are quite a few user manuals written for it now by different folks, and it appears to be an even better program these days than when I first was introduced to it!

Just got back from seeing The Muppet Movie - for anyone who watched TV in the 80's [or remembers the 80's] - it was a very fun movie. Really more for adults than kids.

Browsing the kickstarter site. Mostly the stylus related projects. All the money people have pledged to these things makes me think Apple is missing out on a gold mine.
