I thought I saw something on the news yesterday about fake Facebook friend requests? That you click on the link and bad things happen. Honestly, couldn't tell you what the bad things are because I don't Facebook and didn't pay attention at all. Sorry!

There are fake "announcements" that people are instructed to touch, to copy & paste, and send to everybody they know. What the announcements *say*, is that many people are doing duplicate "friend me" requests, with fake names, and that they can steal your whole life away if you friend them. This is no more true than it has always been (fake friends can read what you wrote) but there are NOT a glut of these fake friendings happening. Just the message that is itself chewing up bandwidth and storage space, as it is spread across the world. (Like it tells you to do.)

Hey credit card people, stop being such a pain in the @ss. No, I don't enjoy you locking down my card and making me call you EVERY time I make a purchase with your card. Yes, I realize you're just doing your part to help prevent fraud and I appreciate that. But EVERY purchase I've made over the last 3 months has set off your fraud radar. That's a little much and if you don't knock it off, I have other cards I can use.

No clue why it's taking so long and it's been over a month. So two weeks ago I cashed out on Ibotta and ordered glasses from Zenni like was recommended here. They came today and I can see!!! I got two pairs of reading and immediate/computer/everyday glasses for $20 with shipping. No more bumping into everything or nearly tripping over everything. That does seem extreme.

The only time my bank ever called me was for my debit card. It was not lost (I still had the physical card) but apparently someone had cloned it or something, and they were trying to use it at a Walmart in a town a couple hours away. Fortunately for me the criminal must not have been very good at it since it triggered the bank fraud response.

It seems like our bank only triggers a warning after we have told them we are doing something unusual.

We are going out of country next year for vacation and called to let them know we would be booking a hotel in that other country and not to flag it. "Ok, you're good to go." Then we got the declined message anyway. Cost us almost $300 since the place we were booking filled up before we could get them to clear it.

Same thing happened to me with my debit card. The bank detected an unusual transaction - time of day (~02:00 AM), amount (~$2000), location (Berlin, Germany), purpose (furniture). They sent me a somewhat cryptic SMS immediately, telling me they had blocked my card and if they didn't hear from me within 12 hours they would cancel it.

I misread the msg when I read it at 06:00 and didn't do anything until the next day, by which time they had cancelled both my debit and my Visa card! It took them over week to 'reverse' the debit, and give me new cards - which was a bit irritating.

I dropped the limit on my debit card back to $500, some months previously they had increased it to $5,000 without asking first - a so called reward for being a loyal customer!!

I've had the card for 12 years. Never had an issue like this before with that card or any other card. They first flagged it back in August when I was in Seattle on vacation. I've used the card in Texas and Utah as well as at home and it's never had an issue. Now, I can't buy an ebook from Harlequin or a physical book from B&N without getting a phone call.

Four books read since I got my reading glasses. I can read faster now I don't have to focus on making out the words because they are not crisp. I realize I probably needed reading glasses years ago. Best $7 I ever spent. I'm reading on my Kobo Glo HD again.

I lost a prepaid to Kobo once. Green Dot called it fraud because I bought ten or more books in an hour. I never got the money left on it either. Here's the funny thing two years prior I bought 300 books from Harlequin all separate transactions in a couple days with the same card. They had a $5 off reusable coupon. So each book was about a quarter.

I used to have two cards -- one was issued by my credit union. When the credit union changed their processing company I started getting hit with these problems. At one point they denied a charge that I tried to make at a gas station even though it was in my own state. The final straw came when I used the card online to make a purchase at a vendor I had used many times before, and then had to go through Verified by Visa for the vendor. After that I assumed I was okay and went to bed.

When I got up there were a couple of emails waiting for me -- the vendor notified me that the order was canceled because the credit card was declined, and the credit card processor notified me that the card had "suspicious activity." I called them to complain and they insisted they were being justifiably cautious. I dropped them.

I never had this problem with the other card, although I have notified them in advance if I'm about to make an online purchase from a vendor based in another country.

Well, the liver biopsy wasn't too bad and no sign of complications so far or much discomfort at all. I won't have the results for a week, probably. I haven't had any liver symptoms but blood work and imaging failed to find a reason for the mildly elevated liver enzymes I've had for awhile now.
