Seven Sons Pu-erh to start the day.

I went to see the Ortheo today. I screwed up my knee last week playing tennis and after a week of mild to serious pain and swelling I made an appointment. The good news, is I did not tear anything and both knees are structurally sound.

The not so good news, the gap between the knee cap and bone is very small. He thinks I managed to slam the knee cap onto the bone and inflame the knee. Nothing that advil, ice and some down time won't fix.

The less good news, my left leg is 3/8 of an inch shorter then my right leg. He gave me lifts for my shoe so that I can make up the difference and thinks that will help with some of my more chronic, mild to serious hip and knee pain.

How do I go through 44 years of life, multiple appointments with Orthos, chiropractors and the like with people commenting on my shorter leg and no one ever mentioned a heel lift? Really?

It feels weird in but I am sure I will adjust to it. But, damn, if I could have reduced wear and tear on the hip and knee with something so ridiculously easy, what the fuck?

Probably V&R material, but I completely get it! It's astonishing how often simple fixes/adjustments are ignored.

The good news is, you didn't do any long lasting structural damage. The bad news is, this level of inflammation is likely going to lead to osteo-arthritis at some point further down the road. If you can avoid doing any more damage, chances are it'll be controllable. If not, you get a new piece of nylon and titanium like I have. But that's hopefully a long way away.

I think a cup of coffee this morning, while I wait to hear if my DW gets sprung from the hospital. I'm assuming she will, so I'll be dealing with that all day. This book is seriously in the toilet at this point -- I'm going to have to bear down all summer to catch up.

Oh, the hip will be replaced and probably the left knee but that is a ways off. I already have arthritis in my left hip it just doesn't flare up all that often but I can barely walk when it does. I have meds for when the arthritis flares. Fortunately there has only been one period where that happened but it was not a fun 6 weeks.

So far, knock on wood, the hips are good. But the left knee is now titanium and nylon. And what an improvement over the condition I was in before the replacement!
