I'm making a leather case for my friend's cell phone. She wanted something 'not sold in stores' so I've used a piece of soft saddle tan leather with the edges done up in a Mexican Braid using a dark lace rather than the light one in this pic.

I think it's coming out pretty nicely!

Scrambling around trying to get everything ready for a handspinning demo at an elementary school tomorrow. Spinning wheel, spindles, niddy-noddy, knitting needles, hand cards. Uncarded wool, carded wool, finished yarn, cotton, flax. Stockings, shoes, chemise, 2 skirts, apron, shortgown, kerchief, cap. Whew, I'm tired already, AND I have to be at the school fully outfitted and ready to go at 8 a.m.

Many years ago, Roy Underhill of "The Woodwright's Shop" (PBS-TV) taught us how to make an adjustable niddy-noddy using hand tools. Just a few years ago I shot these Karen women using one! (Not adjustable and made out of bamboo.)

They use 'body looms' to make some of the most silky soft fabrics! I had this young lady weave me cloth for my guitar strap in the traditional Red Karen patterns (same as the dresses they are wearing.)

I'm trying to imagine you sitting in the gym, weaving away as we watch! I hope you enjoy your show!

It's my favorite edge for two pieces of leather, but it just takes so darn long to do it! I can hand stitch a yard in the time it takes me to braid a few inches.
