The first four titles in the Li Yan/Margaret Campbell "China" series by Peter May have dropped to $2.99 each at Kindle and Kobo US, possibly in honor of the fifth and sixth titles coming out as e-books in the US (available as pre-orders now), although they've been available in the UK for a while. I've read and enjoyed some of May's other books, but have not read anything in this series.

Before you buy, note that the first title, Firemaker, has been on sale before, and even free in a few places, so check carefully before you buy. Titles in this series are normally $9.99 in the US, which is, IMO, absurd for very old (early 2000's) backlist, and this is the first time I've seen any of them on sale, except for Firemaker.

All but one (Death at the Devil's Tavern) of the first 12 titles in Deryn Lake's John Rawlings series are priced at $0.99 each at Kindle US as of now. Most are on US Kindle Countdown deal for about 3 1/4 more days, a few are long term at $0.99.

I'm providing a link to the "series" webpage at Kindle US, which only includes the first 12 titles, now published in e-book by Endeavour Media, and not any of the later titles in the series (another publisher). But, none of those are $0.99 anyway.

You can just take a look yourself and pick out any that you might want. (You may need to click on "show all" at the bottom of the page to see all 12.)

Oh, yes: They're horribly campy and wonderfully bad, along with being deliciously non-PC'ey correct.

The Shell Scott books by Richard Prather are very similar, but much better written. I have all of those, naturally.

You might also check out Robert Leslie Bellem, whose private eye, Dan Turner, is the epitome of non-PC. Needless to say (but I'll say it, anyway), the Dan Turner stories are hilariously demented and were probably written that way on purpose.

The Big Sleep is the first in the Philip Marlowe series by Raymond Chandler. It has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002RI9AH2

I almost feel silly putting the blurb, or saying this is the first in the Marlowe series, but WTH, here's the info...

Spoiler:
Quote:
The Big Sleep is Raymond Chandler's most famous and popular novel of all

Los Angeles PI Philip Marlowe is working for the Sternwood family. Old man Sternwood, crippled and wheelchair-bound, is being given the squeeze by a blackmailer and he wants Marlowe to make the problem go away. But with Sternwood's two wild, devil-may-care daughters prowling LA's seedy backstreets, Marlowe's got his work cut out - and that's before he stumbles over the first corpse . . .

'Anything Chandler writes about grips the mind from the first sentence' Daily Telegraph

'One of the greatest crime writers, who set standards others still try to attain' Sunday Times

'Chandler is an original stylist, creator of a character as immortal as Sherlock Holmes' Anthony Burgess

Best-known as the creator of the original private eye, Philip Marlowe, Raymond Chandler was born in Chicago in 1888 and died in 1959. Many of his books have been adapted for the screen, and he is widely regarded as one of the very greatest writers of detective fiction. His books include The Big Sleep, The Little Sister, Farewell, My Lovely, The Long Good-bye, The Lady in the Lake, Playback, Killer in the Rain, The High Window and Trouble is My Business.

I've read the first 4. They're not compelling enough to get me to binge the series all at once, but I've had a good chuckle at the very non-PC dialogue and humor. I will definitely keep pulling them out when I want a light read. The price has been right too.

EDIT: Actually, the link doesn't seem to pick them all up - not quite sure why. Here are the ones that I see at $0.99 as of now:
A few recent 87th Precinct price drops to $0.99. Not sure if any/many are the same as last month, and I'm slammed at work and don't have time to cross-check. The link picks up the $0.99 drops, and also a bunch of McBain titles that are longer term at $1.99.
