I have always assumed Fig Newtons are what we called Figolu in my childhood. I think they may have another name now, or maybe :gasp: have disappeared. I loved them!

OK, I just Googled Figolu and they are (still, I think) made by a French company called Lu, so I guess they're not the same as fig newtons. I'll have to taste fig newtons next time I travel to the US! Or do they have it in England too? Or maybe France... I don't exactly visit that section very often at the supermarket.

My wife and I recently had a chance to taste dates and figs side-by-side. We were anxious to do so because we both had forgetten which is which and what they taste like. We both first tasted a date and enjoyed it. Then we both tasted a fig and.....duh!...we looked at each other and said "That tastes exactly like a Fig Newton!" Except there's a soft baked cookie kinduva thing around the figs in a Fig Newton. That's what one tastes like.

I love fresh figs! Dates, not so much, though I only tried them fresh once, and I don't think they were ripe. I didn't know you have to wait until they look overripe and wrinkled to eat them.

I'm deciding what to read tonight: to finish my novel (epub, and really fun) or read my library book (paperback, ancient history, also really fun)... I am always very indecisive! I just bought my niece a few pbooks as well today, and got myself a bag full of cheap used books. I had some great finds.

A fresh fig tastes delicious. A dried one tastes a little like sugary poo, but bloke loves them. Dried dates are more delicious than dried figs, but fresh figs are more delicious than fresh dates. Oh but fresh dates are REALLY delicious, just not quite as EXCEPTIONALLY delicious as fresh figs. *stops to draw breath*

I hope that has cleared it up!

On another note - the devil got into my laptop last night. every open box was filled with sixes. I managed to do a back up of the accounting file called 6. it took 8 goes to balance the escape button with the save button.

Went to try to disable the onboard keyboard this morning and the devil has gone. I think this laptop is about to die (NEVER buy an Acer again!) Madly copying all my files in preparation.
