That looks beautiful! The ground and the sky look real. Are you sure you didn't sneak up to the boat, paint it and take another photo?
If I had the technology, perhaps I wouldn't virtually paint the boat as you have done. Be sure I won't use that beautiful photo in any ad, but maybe I could show it to a buyer as to what it would look like if stitchy did actually turn up here with a paintbrush. ![]() Thanks for the second touch up. That is indeed useable in an ad. The original I took from the advertisment placed by the dealer on the internet. You would think he would be able to do that, but he wants it actually painted to make it easier for him to sell. Last edited by SneakySnake; 08-18-2011 at 01:22 AM. |

But in the second one, absolutely NOTHING was done to the boat at all, only to the boatyard behind it. This is the effect of using a smaller F/stop on a camera lens to reduce the depth of field in the image when taking the photo, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the subject rather than having it cluttered up with background. No trickery at all, just done after the shot was taken rather than at the same time. Stitchawl |

Anyone with an ordinary SLR camera can take the photo using an aperture of F/2.8 or F/3.5 and get the very same results I created with the computer... It ain't rocket science. Stitchawl |

I use Photoshop Elements, so presumably I could spend a bit of time getting to know it beyond brushing up images of toys for my wife's website, and try using it on pictures of friends and family, and maybe get some of the type of results you are demonstrating...?

Find some instructional books by Scott Kelby, specifically something that deals with what is called 'Post processing work flow.' This will give you a very simple step-by-step correction process, usually no more than 4-5 steps, to turn the average image into a very good image. (This is NOT removing blemishes, increasing bust lines, or thinning waistlines.) It's how to increase the overall look of the image as the camera 'should' have given but didn't, as in; changing contrast, improving light balance, improving color saturation, removing color casts, and sharpening the image. Kelby also has some instructional material called "Killer Tips and Tricks." This is where he shows, again step-by-step, how to remove those blemishes, thin thunderthighs, smooth out wrinkles, etc. and a host of other problem solving tools. There are several very good 'teachers,' but Kelby is the easiest to follow. Deke McClellan is excellent, but a bit hard for the novice to follow, and aims more for graphic design. Kelby has stuff written just for photographers. Stitchawl |

I saw some mouth-watering videos on the new photo correction features in recent version of Photoshop. I'm using CS and it's more than enough for the little I do with it, but when I upgrade my Mac to Lion, it will stop working and I'll have to get the latest one.
By the way, I preferred the unedited version of the woman's photo myself, I hate the cyborg look of the other one. But then, I'm female. ![]() |

As a photographer, you only really need to concern yourself with the post production work flow, which is really pretty simple, and a few key tricks to make people look better ( if that is what you are shooting. No need to smooth the wrinkles on an elephant.) These are things that you do to EVERY photograph. Keep it simple... Stitchawl |

Oh boy, something terrible happened at Pukkelpop (one of our major festivals). A storm passed and because of the wind a couple of buildings collapsed on the people taking shelter there ... 3 confirmed dead, at least 60 injured, the whole terrain transformed into mud, couple of stages collapsed, the festival will probably be canceled ... Some of my friends were there, luckily they're all OK. One of my sister's friend can't be reached ... Scary moments ...
