I recently lost my trusted PW3 and decided to replace it with the new Oasis; however it’s backordered here in Europe, and I’m having second thoughts.
So:
I reckon the warm lighting is mostly useful at night; however both devices support the “invert black and white” mode, and I would expect this mode to contribute significantly more to reducing the night-time brightness than the warmth of the light alone. In this context, it seems the KO2 paired with a half-cover would be a cheaper and lighter option, for a very similar result. Any thoughts? |

Myself, I don't care for the inverted mode at all, but many people love it. |

Another difference is that the older model has 3G, while the new one has 4G. Did anyone notice a difference in the Wikipedia loading speed between the KO2 and KO3 on mobile data? Last edited by BionicGecko; 09-22-2019 at 05:20 PM. |

I think the Oasis 2 is 4G capable.

Ah this is interesting; according to the Amazon website, the Oasis 2 indeed supports “4G LTE connectivity in US where available, 3G/EDGE/GPRS in other locations”; whereas the Oasis 3 supports 4G everywhere. Thank you for pointing this out!
As I’m not in the US I would need to get the Oasis 3 to benefit from 4G; is the speed difference worth it? I’m not planning on downloading audiobooks or anything big, mostly interested in the speed for loading Wikipedia article, which was very slow on my PW3. I didn't realize there are distinctions between 4G in the US and 4G everywhere. |

I was looking at various comparison videos between 3G and 4G on mobile phones, and the difference in speed is significant; however I can’t find any specific test for the Kindle. The kindle is not as fast as current mobile phones, and it’s possible that the CPU would be a bigger bottleneck to the rendering of the page than the download speed. So I finally decided to get the KO3, and right on time; it's scheduled to arrive early next week, and I see they're now back-ordered until Nov. 11!
Thank you guys for your help ![]() |

I went to Best Buy to play with the Kindle Oasis they had on display. I liked it a lot. I will be getting one! Now I just have to decide if I want to upgrade my old iPad first, or get the Oasis first. I really miss having page turn buttons after switching from Nook to Paperwhite, but my iPad can't be upgraded any further and a few of the websites and APPs I use are not functioning.

For those who are keeping there kindle oasis 2. Blue light is damaging to your eyesight. The oasis 2 is blue compared to oasis 3 and Voyager is the worst blue.
It's the heavy blue tinted makes the contrast appear to have the highest contrast which is true but its down to the blue tinted. The oasis 3 is simply easier on the eye due to at no tint settings it's still more a cream colour than oasis 2 and this alone makes it easier in the eye. The adjustable colour tint is the best thing that happened to kindle and if you want less eyestrain and protect your vision then the tint adjustment is a must. So the upgrade is well worth it and find the oasis 3 is much easier and comfortable on your eyes big time. Also those who are moaning about battery life I think many are clueless. Had seen someone say he reads for up to 7 hours a day and battery does not last and poor and only lasts 3 days or so. What stupid people dont take into account is they are giving battery life at 1/2 reading a day. Those who moan about a 3 or 4 day battery life make me laugh. At 7 hours of you take their battery stats then 7 hours reading a day is 14 days at 1/2 a day. Would not say it's a poor battery life? You got to account for how long each day your reading? People dont have a clue half the time. It's like I used to fill up ink cartridges and people expect the smallest cartridge to print 1000's of pages and often said they did not last long. Shows how people have not got a clue. Same as those moaning about poor battery life, you have no clue and expecting a small battery to last months your dreaming and clueless, look to see how long your reading and compare it the the stated 1/2 a day. |
