Got my Clara HD yesterday. Quite nice. I wouldn't call it perfect, a few minor quibbles....don't know why it kinda bugs me there is no top margin on these things apparently no matter how I convert the epub. The lack of page buttons is weird. And the color temp doesn't get as orange as I'd like the way the Nook Glow 3 does. I notice the light bleeding issue, but that doesn't really bother me at all. There is a lady on Youtube that has a fix that involves popping the cover off and putting electrical tape along the edge, for anyone who has a problem with that, but wants to keep the reader and enjoys tinkering.
But overall, I can already tell this is the best ereader I've owned. Very snappy, good hardware, and I like the way the menu is layed out. I bought a case off ebay but wasn't paying attention and it's shipping from Hong Kong, so I'm going to have to keep this reader at the house until the end of October when I get my case LOL. But yeah, in short, even with the minor warts....I'm a Kobo convert. Huge plus, I no longer have to constantly re-convert my epubs to get the damn cover art to display! I don't know why, but ever iteration of the Nook I've owned would forget the cover art. Even when it was working fine before...anyway.....I rate the Kobo Clara HD 5 bags of popcorn and a lucky rabbit's foot. Highly recommended! Last edited by javyn; 09-27-2018 at 05:13 PM. |

The new Aura H2O is up and running. I was happy I could just sign in to my Kobo account.
Interestingly enough there is no Walmart branding at start up. Only indication of this reader being purchased through Walmart is that Walmart is the first option listed for setting up and account. Looked at the affiliate.conf file and it was =kobo. Lighting looks even and I could not wait to use Overdrive to check out a library book directly to my Kobo. That was a treat. |

As for Walmart being the first choice in logging in ... I think that's more of a location (U.S.) rather than the store where the device was bought. I logged out of my old Touch and, when I logged back in, it showed the Walmart login as the main one. I've got a feeling that's standard now. |

Adding an @page style with a top margin to what you like should work. If you are using calibre to send the books, you can have this added using the modify CSS option in the driver when the book is sent to the device.

Odd. And yet my Touch (never in a Walmart store), sold long before the Walmart / Rakuten alliance, defaults to a Walmart login when log out and back into my account. Maybe Rakuten is re-thinking the default Walmart login.

I think she meant that logging in with Kobo account, even though a Walmart login option was there, does not leave Walmart logo on startup.

How's the speed of the device? How does it compare to a Kindle?

Oh, okay. I would still like to see what the Walmart start-up login looks like. Maybe my local Walmart has an Aura (Edition 2) on display now and I can test it there.

Just Look at your local Walmart store Sign: Walmart & & the bars in a circle are in Black & White on the Kobo.

In my case, the account choices where for "Bookworld" and "Angus & Robertson". These are Australian booksellers. When I when to the more options, it starts with Kobo, Facebook and Google. The rest are in alphabetical order and Walmart is last. I did look at the Walmart login and it appears to be for the US. This has changed since the last time I did a login. Previously, the login page had the Kobo login or account creation at the top, with the alternatives lower on the page. The current page seems to be pushing the affiliates in preference to directly connecting to Kobo. That makes a lot of sense in the US with the Walmart deal. I also tried the desktop application. That still has Kobo first with the alternatives in alphabetical order under this. Edit: And of course, it isn't as simple as that. I tried the same on my Glo, and it showed Kobo as the main signing option. The list of other options was the same. Last edited by davidfor; 09-28-2018 at 10:29 PM. |

I've got a Touch on the newest "official" firmware (4.8.x). Is there any big advantage to moving up to 4.10.x? I assume Overdrive borrowing won't work (which would be my main reason for looking into 4.10). But I may be missing other features. If I do decide to try 4.10.x do I have to do any patches before installing to make it work, or does it just install like normal?
