How do I replace the firmware with it? I don't mind doing a factory reset. Manually installing might be easier if I can find the instructions. Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk |

The only issue I've seen with the new firmware is that the backlight isn't consistent, e.g. last night while reading in bed in one position, it first went bright, then darker, then bright and then (for the first time) decided to turn the light off. When I manually adjusted it back after 5 minutes it disabled it again. Was a little annoying...

I canconfirm the erratic behavior of backlight. Sometimes it even just doesn't turn on, no reason (the surrounding light is dimmed).

David, thanks!
So, since I only access Kobo using WiFi, I can't go back to a prior version without the KA1 re-syncing with the current sync version!?! I'll have to mull over if I want to fix something that ain't broke by syncing to the new version. |

I haven't read all the posts in this long thread (I just bought a Kobo for the first time a few days ago), but I had almost the same rapid drain problems on my Nook Simple Touch ereader back in 2011 when I first got it. I even got a replacement device from Barnes and Noble, but it had the same problem. I "fixed" the problem by rebooting the device every time I charge it, right after I charge it. In other words, I power it down by long-pressing the power button. Then you have to turn it on with a long-press again on the power button. I think that the Kobo works the same when you do this procedure - it reboots, right?
Anyway, this actually solves the rapid battery drain problem on the Nook ST, at least on mine. If I do not reboot, it starts draining very quickly and can drain completely within a day or two. Maybe this helps? Last edited by RAH; 02-10-2017 at 10:39 AM. |

But, all that depends on how you use it. The above is probably with the WiFi and light off, and assumes an average reading rate. If you turned WiFi on and purely used the browser, the battery life would be a lot lower. The WiFi uses power and the browser refreshes the screen a lot. If you are reading a book, it depends on how fast you read. The device renders a page, displays it on the screen and goes into a low power mode until you turn the page. So, most power usage is while turning a page. That means that if you are a slow reader, the battery will last longer. But if you are a fast reader, it will last less time. Both readers will probably get about the same number of page turns. If you also do things like make annotations or do dictionary lookups, there battery life will be shorted. Overall, the more you interact with the screen, the higher the more power used and hence the shorter the battery life. |

The viable battery duration of the Aura One is perfectly acceptable.
End of discussion! |

Also, I prefer not to let the battery fall below 20% before I recharge, if I can help it. I assume Kobo's 15-hour estimate means 15 hours to zero charge (or 5% or whatever the point is where you MUST recharge), but I start getting nervous at around 20% and just recharge it then, which makes it FEEL like I'm getting less than promised, when actually I'm not.
