Can anyone tell me if, using the classical Home view (not the new one), has the 'Personal' banner been removed for books that you sent to your kindle via the kindle email or does it still show for this books? I know that books sent via calibre don't show the label but you loose many syncing benefits by doing so. If this is the case it will make me seriously consider updating, this label has always ticked my OCD nerves. There is no 'Personal' banner on any book in cover view (now 'grid' view), whether sent via email or loaded using USB.

My firmware is 5.4.5.1 and I believe I jailbroke it at the time, if I update to the new firmware from my version will it keep the jailbreak?

I believe so, but check the Kindle dev forum to be sure.

On which view does this happen? List view only? Can you post a screen shot?

I don't have a screen shot, but it happens in list view only, for all non-amazon books. It doesn't bother me, but then again, the 'personal' banner never bothered me either.

Maybe slightly offtopic but did this method work for books sent to the kindle via email?

Sorry, I don't use this feature, so I don't know.

I'll miss the dots, they were really useful because they gave us a clue about the length of a book but I can live with that since I mostly use calibre to decide which book to read next.

I frequently share highlighted passages from Kindle books via Twitter. This feature was killed in the iOS Kindle app recently, but still worked on my Paperwhite. After reading about the changes to sharing on the Paperwhite, I'm worried that I may not be able to do it from there either after the update.

I've been reading these threads and watched the YouTube video without finding any mention of this. Am I the only person who uses this feature? And does it still work after the update?

As shalym said, it does not happen in cover view but in list view and when using the new home screen it does.
Thankfully there is a way to get rid of that 'kindle document' banner, I found it in other threads in this forum. I did it by selecting all my books in Calibre and using the plugin Quality Check, with the command "fix" -> "fix ASIN for Kindle Fire". Each time I add new books I do that for the new book and the banner doesn't apear.
Since I fixed it I don't have a good screenshot, one book I forgot to fix so I can show you for that one. Some people do not mind, I did find it annoying, but since there's a way to get rid of it an that is not too complicated it doesn't matter that much.
If you ask me the disappearance of the little dots matters more, aha.

As for 'ghost books'.. each time I remove a book from a collection it becomes a ghost book. I really hope they fix that.

That doesn't work when you email the book to your kindle, the banner still appears. If it's just to send the book over via calibre you don't need to perform that fix, books sent via calibre don't show the 'personal' banner.

Amazon's PDOC intake post-processes the book and adds the PDOC marker back in...

What View mode are you using? Books should not be disappearing whenever you remove them from a collection -- but if you are set to only view collections, that would explain a lot.

It's set to view all items, sorted by collection. I can see items that are not in collections (the ones I never put in a collection). But then if I put a book in a collection and then remove it from the collection it disappears. It shows up in the search box though. If I transfer it to a different collection it does not disappear.
One again it's nothing super dramatic but it's a bug that shouldn't be and was not before, so i was curious if it happened to anyone else's Kindle.
Usually when I've picked out a book to read soon I'll remove it from collections so that it directly shows on the home screen and that I don't forget reading it. I always have hundreds of books on my kindle so that was something useful, but I can live without it.

Are you sure that the books are removed from all collections? I know I've had that happen--I have one book in two different collections, and when I take it out of the first one I have to search to find it.

For example, a couple of weeks ago I had a book that I moved out of the "to be read" collection because I was planning to reading it, but I forgot that I had also added it to the "KU" collection. So when I removed it from the "to be read" collection, I couldn't find it anymore without doing a search.

The feature was killed for Personal Documents (store bought books should still allow sharing) so I guess, it's a possibility on the Kindle hardware as well (following the ongoing trend of making personal files more inconvenient than or at least not as convenient as store-bought books).

I agree with Shalym -- I've lost books because I don't know what other collection I left them in. I've never tried removing a book from ALL collections, that I recall. I have a collection for DONE. When I remove the book from CURRENT (which is getting a little full, I'll admit, so it no longer really means exactly "current") I move it to DONE instead.

After a few months, I may remove it from the device, from its place in the DONE collection. But it is still tagged as DONE, and would land there again if I ever re-download it.

Since I've never tried removing something from all collections, you may be right about the bug. I've just never tried it.

My not-in-a-collection books, which fill the index beyond the initial collections, are the ones I get for free. Every so often, I choose a book from there, to read, alternating with the ones explicitly in CURRENT (i.e. "interesting - get around to this").

Does someone know the name of the firmware 5.7.2 update file and where it is located in my device when Kindle start the auto update OTA?

I don't want to update my kindle for now, but I need the WiFi for at least 5 minutes daily. Then, I was thinking in turning on the WiFi, turning it off after 5 minutes and deleting the update file, so my Kindle won't update.

I'm using Kindle Paperwhite 2, firmware 5.6.5. I'm in Brazil (I don't know if Amazon is already sending the update over-the-air for us).

Ahah yes that happens to me too from time to time, but in those ghost book cases I'm sure they're in no collection, I have checked. They are nowhere to be found. I'm not sure it would do it for every book and am not really willing to try because if all my books turn to ghosts it won't be fun
Maybe it happens only with the books that were in my kindle before the update? I should delete them all and put them back in the Kindle and see what happens.

It's not the only weird thing that happens with my kindle, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's an uncommon problem. (There are also idiosyncrasies with the page overview thing, since the update that brought the bookerly font, and I've never seen anyone else have that bug. Factory reset didn't change a thing)

Once one re-finds a ghosted book, is there any way to assign it to a collection? I mean, I don't think I can long-press in the find results list. I can open the book, and nothing else. So there is no way to find out what collection it already is in (if it's not really ghosted but I just can't find it). Or to assign it to a collection that I know about.

I have no idea, I don't have first-hand experience with the firmware.
But I have had similar issues which could be fixed by switching to Recent View.
