Your post did not mention anything about type of book or type of transfer to the device (or even now - HOW (meaning, what commands and/or application) you are using to make the transfer). PS: What you said: "Send by USB" - makes little sense. To transfer a file over the USB cable to user storage **should not** make any changes to the file. More likely, whatever it is you are using on the PC end of the connection is mis-behaving (but you didn't mention what your using). **OR** your "Send by e-mail" **IS** making some type of conversion. But again, you don't mention enough detail to give a sensible answer. |

Really thanks for your work, NiLuJe. Just one request: CJK support. I'm reading Chinese books in my kindle and the Chinese fonts is horrible. I found a way doing it by using USBnet and some SSH commands: put all the fonts in /mnt/us/fonts/, plus a .conf file, and using following commands:
Code:
mntroot rw ln -s /mnt/us/fonts/99-qc.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d mntroot ro |

Plus, amazon was more strict about hacking kindle on 5.6.x so I gave up upgrading. What are you updating for? Word wise? (We should talk in Chinese instead ![]() |

@evianluw: Brain fried right now, but I'm pretty sure it's trivial to handle manually, following the example of one of the basic overrides. No need to ever touch a root shell.
I'm even fairly sure someone posted examples earlier in this thread. That, and/or the fallback override might also do the job. |

I have a tricky question.
Is there a way to set up the font overrides this way: Caecilia -> Candara Caecilia Condensed -> Candara Bold ? |

Technically, it should be possible on a 'normal' system, but I'm not sure the reader doesn't do things in 'interesting' ways regarding the style handling, so, I'll go with maybe, but don't get your hopes up.
Plus, you'd have to look into FC's doc for how to enforce that kind of thing. |

The handling of both Caecilia and especially Caecilia Condensed is extra-wonky on Kindles, so that may add another layer of indirection...

On a real Linux system, sure, on the Kindle, good luck making the reader behave regarding the whole style handling. (YMMV, it's been a while since I played hide and seek with that).

Pushed release packages. Should behave properly on FW 5.6.x.

Thank you for your awesome hack!
I have a question regarding Fonts Hack. I have jailbroken my PW3 recently, and want to override a stock Korean font. Below are system information : Kindle Paperwhite 3 (US version) KUAL v2.5.19-g2b0af4c (2015.08.14.) Fonts Hack v0.13.N r12250 (2015.08.18.) There are two stock korean fonts : HYMyeongjo and HYGothic. I created 98-override-HYGothic.conf file(based on 98-override-serif.conf) in /mnt/us/linkfonts/etc/conf.d, and replaced two string values to HYGothic and NanumGothic. Afterwards, the stock HYGothic font is changed to NanumGothic successfully. When I read some korean books(personal books converted from epub to azw3), they are rendered to NanumGothic font. but system menu font is also changed to NanumGothic. (which I didn't wanted) If I replace two string values to HYMyeongjo and NanumGothic, it also works, but then Bookerly font is also changed to NanumGothic. (which I didn't wanted) Will it be possible to solve this problem? Thank you. Last edited by nowyouare; 08-22-2015 at 06:23 AM. |

@nowyouare:
Please copy/paste the current fontconfig shard you built. When you say 'system font' do you mean Futura (sans) or Caecilia (serif)? |

I ask because it may be something about the books your using to test with that is causing a fall-back from the new Bookerly font. |

@NiLuJe:
The contents of /mnt/us/linkfonts/etc/conf.d/98-override-HYGothic.conf below(no other files in that folder) Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd"> <fontconfig> <match target="pattern"> <test name="family" compare="eq"> <string>HYGothic</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>NanumGothic</string> </edit> </match> </fontconfig> - I meant the font that is used on the top-right corner menu (Shop Kindle Store, Kindle FreeTime, Vocabulary Builder, ...) The font on the first screen (Cloud | On Device All Items( ) Collection) is also changed. @knc1: Do you have a book that the Bookerly font worked on before your changes? - Yes, the Bookley font worked with my english books(bought from amazon.com) without any problem before I created the .conf file.
