Oh thanks a lot for the nice pictures, I'll just steal them for the german Sony Mobius thread right now.
Yes, the Sony Mobius could be great for sheet music and musicians. I was thinking about scientific PDF documents (facsimiles of philosophical works that got published electronically by universities), and PDF versions of magazines, but sheed music would be a great application field for the Mobius, too. |

I think a large e-ink device like the mobius will always be at best a niche product. For example, not that many people read sheet-music. I think the Mobius is more a show-case of what Sony can do with the new technology. It is important to them that the e-ink display is lighter and more flexible than existing screens. Maybe the new T3 incorporates this type of screen but smaller. I think that is possible. Sony is an innovator (or used to be).

Not necessarily. If Sony builds cooperations with universities, schools and daily newspapers this deveice could change a lot. On the other hand, Apple had a lot of such cooperations with schools in the past and Apple computers are still a niche product.
Right now I'm just an egoist, I'd like such a deveice for myself to read books that I own as PDF files. |

It is advertised as the first A4 e-ink reader. But it is not really A4?
I think A4 is 14.3" not 13.3". It is A4 if the document has margins and if those margins are discarded, but that makes reading it more difficult. As to usage for sheet music. Think not only about all the individual musicians (and there are lots of them) but also about orchestras, music schools, conservatories. The possibility to make notes on sheet music is also very handy. A truly A4 flexible device could finally replace all the paper documents everywhere. In every office. No more printers. On the other hand, there are already OCRed pdfs with dual column layout preserved. I'm not sure what to do with them. I know there are some commercial pdf converters that can supposedly handle dual columns. Calibre converter has the new pdf converting engine which also supposedly handles dual columns but I tried it and the converter just breaks when this new engine is specified. |

http://www.macrumors.com/2013/07/22/...-13-inch-ipad/ http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/07...-in-the-works/ I think the Trend for larger-screen Tablets makes sense and also Samsung with their S-Pen Technique provide a relatively good way for taking notes and etc. If the rumours turn out to be true it will be a difficult situation for Sony to gain market shares and also they should consider releasing the Sony 13 Slate earlier than those tablets. This would make it even more a niche product, but it has some advantages like a longer battery life, low weight and a matte display (maybe also durability) But I still think most people would be prefer a smooth tablet over the slow and static display of the E-Ink Pearl technology So when they enter the market and at which price will be very interesting especially if there is a large threat of substitute products such as the large-screen Readers from 2 of the largest Tablet makers in the world^^ |

12" to 13" made of glass? For that kind or area of glass not to break the device must be very rigid and therefore to have a solid metal frame. What could be its weight? And still a good chance to break it.
I prefer flexible Sony. |

the threat of substitute products (in this case tablets) is very high I hope sony will release it sooner than later! Last edited by gamba66; 07-23-2013 at 11:01 AM. |

I am just wondering could an A4 e-ink flexible thin and light readers replace all the paper in the offices? So that there are no more printers even?
A dozen of e-readers on a desk scattered or piled up perhaps. And stuck in drawers. Or who needs e-readers when there are monitors already. Imagine a picture: When you send a document to the printer, it shows up on an e-reader instead, and the e-reader pops up out of the "printer". Then after a while, e-readers with no longer needed documents are "recycled" better than paper - they go back to the "printer". Where they are also recharged. In such a scenario, an e-reader could hold just one document. But still, a multi-page document perhaps instead of multiple paper pages. Last edited by parkher; 07-23-2013 at 11:28 AM. |

The only thing I think of super-sized tablets is a super-sized price. Heck, the iPad now costs 5-6 hundred dollars. Make it almost a third larger and I cannot imagine what that would cost. I don't know how great that would sell. Now a larger eInk is a possibility, but that will be costly as well. Price will be a big determining factor.
