I don't know what happens when I'm not looking, but as I pointed out to her yesterday, it already has a spot in it where it looks as in something hit it and marred the wood.

Well, I did take 10 days to go to Virginia for a 5 family "Family gathering". My mum and us 4 kids, plus 8 grandkids ranging from age 3 to about 24. 17 of us all total. Had a great time - privacy when desired, but family gathering and games when desired too.

The only way to 'defrost' a shy kitten: toys

She's really funny when she plays, she makes lots of noise.

I'm feeling a bit guilty though, my cat (the one I already had) seems unhappy

I'm giving him lots of cuddles, but still.

It takes LOTS of time for the adjustment to occur! [my cats are still adjusting - on a daily basis - to Stella] - just be patient and don't over-react or panic. For cat fights or overly aggressive tussles, squirt them with water or compressed air. Also, they will start being friendly when you're not around, and act quite differently when you're there - like kids competing for attention. Lots of patience!

I think Ongeval has a certain ring to it. Depending on how you pronounce it (is the "g" hard like on-guh-voll? Or is the "g" more of a "j" sound?)

You can hear the pronounciation when you use Google Translate (just click 'listen'). But it turns out 'ongeval' is 'accident', and 'crash' is translated as 'botsing'. Both are masculine words, and it's a female kitten.

So what did you do when you had to go to work? I'm a little worried about leaving them alone for 9 hours straight when I have to go to work on monday.

You can segregate the kitten in a room the larger cat can't get into - preferably with space at the bottom of the door where they can touch paws and sniff. They can get acquainted at their own speed without any bloodshed. This is also a good idea when you're worn out trying to monitor them and need some rest time, or at night if they're awake and you're not.

The kitten will need to have a "safe place" in your house where she will not be reachable by the large cat.

I have a large dog crate that I converted into a kitten playpen - the kitten was safe, but could see the other cats. I put in a small roasting pan as a litter box, a blanket & toys & water bowl. It's worked fine. She can see everyone but can't be reached by them.

Making a back-up of all the important files on my desktop. On Tuesday I'm installing Windows 7 on this PC, until then it's notebook only. Backing up takes a while, though I must say with an external HD is much easier and faster then in the days of having to burn cd's.

After backing up it's off to bed to watch the second half of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
