Seriously, I was just plainly puzzled by your "logic": if one usually enjoyed Irving, one would be surprised - as this specific one was an good Irving novel. As if the other ones weren't good? Hmmm...

It just didn't add up In my mind Irving writes good novels. I haven't considered that the reason I didn't read his most current books to be any other than my personal 'failing' - that they just aren't to my personal taste. So what? I love "The Children's Book" by A. Byatt, but I can understand if it's not to everyone's taste However, I have a feeling that Byatt is to me, what Irving is to you.
I think it's just that the last couple have not gotten much critical acclaim and attention.

I love A Prayer for Owen Meany as well as Garp but have not read any of his others but Cider House is on my to-read list near the top.

"A prayer for Owen Meany" was one of those I couldn't remember the title of. But it's good, too. You really should read "The Cider House Rules" - and then have a good long think about the women and their choices and options

I'll do that.

I almost bought it today at the bookstore.

I don't think it's available as an e-book.

The World According to Garp taught us one very important thing.. Never get a blow job in a car.

I'm reading "Dead Until Dark" by Charlaine Harris, since I seem to be the only one who hasn't read the books yet. I got it in pbook from the library and the print is so tiny! My eyes hurt

This leads one to believe that the aforementioned wisdom regarding automobile etiquette very likely no longer applies to you.

Sorry, Kenny, I just couldn't help myself.

I find that I'm much more likely to read two or more novels in tandem (recreational, not editing) since I started to use an ereader. Hardly ever did in the past. How about others here -- a new reading habit for you? Neil

Not me. I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time (I have to synchronise each chew with each step).

Cheers,

Interesting (maybe a new thread?). My reading habits have changed dramatically since using an ebook device, and this is just one of the ways in which the change manifested, although it is not peculiar to novels.

Huh? I must have missed something. Was it in small print?

Oh, wait, is this in reference to Garp?
