It's a world of laughter, a world of tearsIt's a world of hopes and a world of fears There's so much that we share that it's time we're aware It's a small world after all There is just one moon and one golden sun And a smile means friendship to everyone Though the mountains divide And the oceans are wide It's a small world after all It's a small world after all It's a small world after all It's a small world after all It's a small, small world ![]() ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgQejd14wKs ) Good morning, everyone! I guess I've been away from the States for too long. Just last night at dinner I realized that during my 'average' day, I hear at least 3-4 different 'foreign' accents. And each day, they usually aren't the same foreign accents! They may call America the world's Melting Pot, but think about it for a moment... How many non-US accents do you hear each and every day unless you're in NY or LA? The usual lunch crowd in my favorite restaurant includes Australian Peter, German Joseph, Spanish Jorge, Greek Theo, UK David and Susan, and French Michelle and Jean. And Americans me and a fellow named David. These are just the expats who eat there regularly. Add in the Chinese, Israeli, Swedish, and Malaysian, etc., tourists and the Thai locals, we get a real international summit meeting every day! THIS is a Melting Pot! I'm on my second mug of Viang Joom On's "English Breakfast" tea, and getting ready for a long walk. I've let my exercising go for waaay too long, and I've only got three months to get ready for the next Royal Thai Navy International Fencing Tournament. If I want to make a reprise of last year's results I need to get working on it! Stitchawl |

I echo that need for getting back on the exercise horse, Stitchawl. I was doing well, and then the hours on this current book just knocked it out of me. And now this week will be the final, horrible, heads-down push. I simply must finish this week if we're going to make our deadline.
All this means I'll be very, very light on the boards this week, if I'm even here. But I'll finish off the evening with a glass of Talisker Storm. |

Oooh, sounds lovely. If I finish this chapter tonight, I get to have some Lagavulin. If not, I'll have to "settle" for Talkiser Storm.

Jiaogulan tea... One of the many herbal teas that have become so entrenched in the "Eat Health Foods and Live Forever" mind set of many these days.
A friend of mine has been after me for years to try his tea but I'm not an herb tea lover. Even though knowing full well that if I drink Jiaogulan tea I will live forever, I've managed to avoid it. However... ... he recently sent me a sampler box of Jiaogulan, with a request for a critique. This afternoon I tried the Jiaogulan tea. Fortunately 'Listerine' is able to remove the aftertaste. Obviously Jiaogulan in NOT my cup of tea. I poured it out and am now happily drinking unbranded Keemun tea. THIS is TEA! Stitchawl |

I hear 4-8 foreign accents/day in my office in Seattle. Expat communities in any locale tend to be diverse. It was the same in Munich for myself.
I am drinking Constant Comment right now. |

I hear no accents at all in my office, since clearly I speak completely without an accent.
But when I am out and around the town, I still don't hear all that many. We're the ones with an accent, here. On the question of Lagavulin v. Talisker last night, I had the Lagavulin. And it was lovely. Only one more chapter to go. A giant mug of Peet's Major Dickason's coffee is brewing right now. I think I'm going to need it. |
