I'll continue with the Vampire Earth at a later time. I need a break ... it raised my blood pressure.

It's the same Korman. This is a MG/YA from 2013.

Thanks for the confirmation about Korman. Guess I should check him out after I'm done my Dahl re-read :-)

I just finished up another Ellery Queen "mystery", On the Eighth Day. I'm giving Queen one more chance after this and then I suspect he and I will part ways.

Yes. I'm about halfway through and really getting into it now. I have the two sequels lurking on my Kindle and will definitely be reading them, though I may alternate with other Fantasy books.

Five chapters into Martin Edwards newly published magnum opus on crime fiction The Life of Crime: Detecting the History of Mysteries and their Creators. The Kobo edition gives a page equivalent of 1005, which translates to 1593 "clicks" on my Sage. A fascinating book so far and I've discovered a handy way to greatly speed up reading and minimize the disruption from all the many footnotes. I am reading on my Sage while keeping the book open in the Kobo app on my tablet at the notes section. Less to and fro should also mean less battery drain, important on a Sage

Just finished up The Gathering Flame, a Mageworlds prequel by Debra Doyle and James MacDonald. I really enjoyed the original Mageworlds trilogy but this put the kabosh on any further reading in that universe.

Which was the expected good mix of old and new SF short stories.

Next up: Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee. I last read this in school, probably 45 years ago. Which is nearly halfway back to the time it describes. Astonishing.

The premise seemed interesting, so I borrowed it from the library. But this failed in several ways for me. The writing was too simple for MG readers. The Spy School series was much better. The characters too stupid for their ages especially the parents. Inconsistencies abound. Poor solutions to seemingly difficult situations. Only two stars but just. Rated D+ [2 stars].

Next, another library loan, Jackaby by William Ritter.

Just finished the Sign of Four, the 2nd Sherlock Holmes story by Doyle. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Borrowed Alice: Princess Andrew of Greece from the local public library, but am having difficulty getting into it. So far it is just a large list of names and dry details. I'll keep trying though. The author has recorded dozens and dozens of every person of royalty that Alice had in her extended family. Most of these lists add nothing to info about Alice herself.

I have Black Death at the Golden Gate waiting in the wings, so I may just go to that one if Alice doesn't get more interesting. Nice cheerful bedtime reading.

Just finished Revival by Stephen King. Not the best of King's work in my opinion. Gave it a 3 at Goodreads.

Next up Collateral Damage by David Mack, a Star Trek Next Generation book.

Just finished up another anthology edited by Alfred Hitchcock: I Want My Mummy.

I can just about always count on Hitchcock to keep me entertained.

Very evocative of rural England between the wars. I had forgotten most of it. Delighted to find the origin of a Jake Thackery song!

And then I read a recent purchase, Sharpe's Assassin by Bernard Cornwell. A swift, delightful read, as usual.

Next up: The Hidden Palace By Helene Wecker. Another recent purchase, the sequel to The Golem and the Jinni.
