Yech. BTDT. Really sorry to hear it, Paul. It's just about the worst way I know to do what your doctor has been telling you to do --- "lose some weight" and "get a more rest". When you're done, you get it right back, and you end up just as tired or more so. Not fair!

I'm not interested in arguing about the safety of growth hormones in beef production. But you should be aware that it is not true that most of your beef is not hormone injected.
Not arguing because it would be pointless. You will believe what you read and I will believe what I read. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Your link is about as relevant as my comment.
It says in 2011, 80%. That was 6 years ago. That is not today. I do appreciate you finding a link.
Thanks for your quick response.
I certainly hope that we don't have to become a major food source for you. Economic reasons mostly. Also the time factors.

Two rants this morning.

First of all I would love to know if our lawyer still thinks the judge will want to speak with my father and uncle in person in the near future. I would really like to book my trip to the UK, but I don't want to risk being away when my father has to go to court (I will have to work in the shop alone). My father refuses to ask our lawyer. Today a letter will be send to the judge, the deadline is next Wednesday, hopefully he'll decide and announce what he wants to do next quickly.

Second, why do my aunt and uncle shift everything that needs to be looked at and/or checked to us. They know that we've been very busy with writing various letters to various judges. Now my grandmother suddenly has to pay a huge amount of tax. The solicitor dealing with my grandmother's estate contacted my aunt and she dropped it in our lap to deal with. Whilst they both are retired and don't have to write letters to various judges. (Also, they have never offered to help pay for our lawyer, whilst they reap the benefits from it. But that's a different story.)

For real, given the pump situation, I'm considering quitting my job, liquidating my retirement for moving money, and fleeing.

Picked up my son yesterday. As we were leaving the parking lot I heard a distinct "Pop!" I did a quick check -- the engine was running smoothly, the road felt fine, no dashboard lights lit up ...

And then I felt a bit of a breeze ... and the road noise seemed to be louder. So, I looked over and saw the driver's side window slipping down into the door.

I have an appointment to get it fixed Monday. We just have to get through the thunderstorms forecast for the weekend. We'll see how well my plastic sheet and duct tape repairs hold up.

I do not recommend Safelite. Their techs give out "misinformation". I was told when I got my windshield replaced the first 3 rock chips were free. Does $119 sound free?
I think that includes a $50 mobile fee because they no longer have a shop here. They got thrown out when Sears closed.

I had a windshield replaced probably 7 years ago. I called Triple-A and they sent out a contractor who works through them. I've been happy.

But the side window can be handled by my local garage. I'm sure the window itself is fine -- I suspect the regulator failed. That motor has also been unreliable in the past, so the motor and regulator will probably be replaced as a unit.

Well, the Dell laptop has been fixed. A number of worthy rants...

1. Consumer authority (ACM) in the Netherlands is crap. I bought a business laptop, but I am a normal consumer with regard to buying the laptop. I'm NOT a business. ACM's complaint desk can't seem to understand the fact that this is a 'business laptop' only because DELL states it as such, and provides "Next Business Day Warranty". They can't wrap their heads around the fact that I, _AS A CONSUMER_ bought a business laptop.

They keep telling me:
- We can't help with purchases made for business use.
- We don't have enough information to help.
- We don't understand your situation.

Hire some people with brains for FRACK's sake! The only thing relevant is that I am a _consumer_, not a business, so _consumer_ law applies to me. The fact that DELL calls the laptop a 'business model' is of no concern.

2. Dell's keyboard costs €45, and will cost an additional amount of €30 to ship, when ordering through DELL Netherlands. That makes €75. Shipping time would be 10-15 business days. Can someone tell me why I can order the same keyboard through EBay, from a reputable seller, for €31, _including shipping_, from the USA, and have in my house 10 days (NOT business days) after ordering?

3. I've been reading around on the internet. Somewhere in 2014 or 2015, DELL has changed its policy. I'm finding many complaints that they are not honoring their warranty. It seems they have have included a clause that all mechanical damage (broken hinges, keys, whatever) are automatically classified as user damage. In short, they can get away with building laptops out of cheap material, because when it breaks, it's 'user damage'.

To me, that reeks of a company that's in financial trouble, and trying to save money wherever they can; not knowing that bad service will cost them so many sales in the long run that they will *really* go bust.

4. I've replaced the keyboard. The amount of dust in there was PHENOMENAL, even though I dust it off each and ever time the laptop comes out of the laptop bag. The only thing I can think of is that the cooling system sucks dust into the laptop, which then gets trapped between the keys. This amount of dust just HAD to break the keyboard sooner or later. I should have taken a picture of it; that was just ridiculous.

This leaves me to take the front frame of the keyboard off every 3 months or so, to clean the keyboard with compressed air.... with the risk of breaking said frame, or the pins it uses to click down to the body.

5. Because of all this, it'll problably be my last DELL laptop. I'm going to return to a desktop for daily use, and use a cheap laptop as a backup after this one fails or can't keep up any longer. (I also still have its 8 year old predecessor, the Lattitude E6500... which had wonderful warranty service, and it still works, although it's a bit scratched up now.)

Today (Sunday) at 5.15pm the telephone rang. My father was DIYing at my sister's place, my mother was putting a load of laundry in the washing machine so I pick up the phone and the following conversation happened:

me: Hello, Bianca <last name> speaking.
man: I'm standing in front of your shop and it's closed [note: I didn't pick up with the store's name, but with my own]
me: Did you get this phone number off the paper in the window?
man: Yes.
me: What other information does that paper list? [in a much bigger and bold font I might add]
man: Uh, the opening times of the store...
me: And what does it say for Sunday?
man: That the store's closed, but I know you live over the shop so....
me: Is it an emergency?
man: No, I need new batteries for my tv remote.
me: Then you're welcome to buy those on Tuesday, we open at 10am. Have a nice day.

Seriously.
Yes, we're closed on Sunday and Monday. We try to have a day for ourselves on Sunday (emphasis on try) and on Monday we're busy with shop things: pick up supplies, go to trade fairs, visit suppliers or manufacturers, do bookkeeping, make orders, etc.

I don't mind helping when it's an emergency; when the fuse blew and you don't have a spare or whatever. But batteries for the remote. If you're that desparate there are more than enough supermarkets open until 10pm or midnight in the city center, or go to a gas station. But don't think that just because we live over our shop we have a duty to help you when we're closed. Also, experience learns that some people think if you help them once when the store's closed it's okay to come by regularly outside of opening times.

@Katsunami: Yup, fan sucks in dust and it blows it out through the keyboard. Where it builds up, of course. This is 'by design'. (And yes, it's a stupid design!)

@Rumpelteazer: I definitely feel your pain. As an IT person, I'm somehow supposed to be available 24/7, even though I'm ONLY a 20 hour a week employee, by contract. And yes, I'd definitely add a flat fee for after hours. And when they call, say "Sure, I can do that for you. But you are aware that we have an after hours surcharge, of course."
