I'm about half-way through Last Night in Twisted River. Still loving it, but it's getting a bit confusing with all the time-shifts and mixing of the story and the fictional stories in the story (Iit's a bit hard to explain) but have also been trading off between that and Evolution of God (library check out) and have had limited reading time the last week or so....

I was vastly impressed by The Hyperion Cantos, and recommended them to a friend. Bantam published them as two mass market PB editions, but did not label the first in any fashion as part one of two. My friend was so incensed at running into the cliff hanger at the end of book one that he flatly refused to read anything else Simmons had written. My protests that the publisher's packaging decisions weren't the author's fault fell on deaf ears. ______ Dennis Last edited by DMcCunney; 11-27-2009 at 08:34 AM. |

I noticed someone commented on "The Girl Who Played with Fire" the 2nd in a trilogy by Stieg Larssen -- unfortunately the dude died, so I don' think there'll be the 3rd, which completely bums me out because the first 2 were amazing!
Right now I'm plodding my way through "the Road" by Cormac McCarthy, meh it's a tad overrated in my mind, but I'll keep going. Might wanna kill myself before the end tho LOL kindaaaaaaa dark you might say ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() We had a good discussion about "The Road" - you might want to check it out: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61009 The end is not as dark as the novel may appear to predict. Personally I would have preferred a darker end, but that's just me. Last edited by Ea; 11-27-2009 at 06:04 PM. |

You should read No Country for Old Men. A bit darker. I've got several other's of his on my to-read list - Blood Meridian is supposed to be particularly dark. |

![]() More seriously, I did expect the end of "The Road" to be darker, and I felt the current ending to be too "Hollywood" happy. I know McCormac wrote the ending, but I felt a little bit the way I felt about the film ending of "Minority Report". |

I'm about a third through Les Mis....I've kind of hit a wall of disinterest. I'm having trouble getting up the energy to pick it back up. I really enjoy it when I do read it, I just find myself lacking the mental ability to focus on it lately. But soon I will finish it!

I'm reading "Beyond the Highland Mist" by Karen Marie Moning. I got hooked on her one series when it was free on Sony (Darkfever) and this series is supposed to be very good and coincides with the other.

I read an odd book today. "Savage Season" by Lansdale. It has draft dodging ex-hippie Texans, tree huggers, criminals, an amazon, and a black gay Vietnam veteran. It's book 1 in a series of (I think) 3 books.

All three works in Stieg Larsson's posthumous Millennium trilogy are available in English, translated by Reg Keeland:
1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2. The Girl who Played with Fire 3. The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. The final book was published in the UK in October 2009. I believe that it won't appear in the US until 2010. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stieg_Larsson |

Re-reading *The Time Traveller's Wife*. Strangely much better second time around, though the first read (in treebook) was good, too. I suspect this might be becuase the second-time reader is prepared for the complicated time shifts that can be confusing first time. Wonder if you'd find the same, Kenny, if you ever give *Last Night on Twisted River* a second crack of the whip. N
