Regarding the installation of the screen saver hack for versions 5.17 and above:

After jailbreaking, ensure that KUAL and Mrpi are functional.

Then, install usbnetlite via MRPI (https://github.com/notmarek/kindle-u...ases/tag/1.0.M).
In KUAL, select USBNetLite -> Toggle USBNetwork.

Connect the Kindle to the internet, and SSH into the Kindle from your computer: `ssh root@[kindle IP] -p 22`. (The default pw is 'kindle')
Using WinSCP, execute the following commands in sequence:
1. `mntroot rw`
2. `ln -s /lib/ld-linux-armhf.so.3 /lib/ld-linux.so.3`
3. `mntroot ro`

After completing these steps, you can proceed to install the screensaver hack using Mrpi as usual.
First post here. ^
I did the WinterBreak Jailbreak on my PW5 about a month ago. I got the device just for the screensaver mod tbh as I wanna use it for Home Assistant. After I read the three step fix here I did so:
First I uninstalled the MR Package again, I installed the package for SSH access and got the three commands through. Then I reboot ed the device and instaslled the MR package again. Now I still am greeted with the default wallpapers shwoing up aka the mod did not work as it seems...

Gonna try a few more tricks, but as it seems my FW 5.17.1.0.3 is not happy with it...

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have a Kindle (touch, 10th gen, 5.17.1.0.3).
I downloaded kindle-python-0.15.N-r18981.tar.xz, extracted, moved Update_python3_0.15.N_install_touch_pw.bin to mrpackages, installed, rebooted.

Then I downloaded kindle-linkss-0.25.N-r18981.tar.xz, extracted, moved Update_linkss_0.25.N_install_touch_pw.bin to mrpackages, installed, rebooted.

I don't have a linkss folder in my Kindle, and I have no new screensaver, or screensaver option in KOReader.

What did I miss?

Edit:

I just noticed that newer firmware versions are not supported I guess.

white borders around screensavers

Hi all

Recenly picked up an old paperwhite 2, and have gotten this screensaver hack installed, and its working mostly fine. Only issue im getting is that theres a white border around any of the of the images i've copied over. They should be the right resolution, and they're all png's. Generated them with this site as it seems built for exactly that.

Have I missed anything?

TIA

Kindle Paperwhite 2 has resolution 768x1024, your screens are in the range of 757x1071. Images need to be exactly 768x1024 when you put them on. Don't use websites for something as simple as resizing images. Just use some free program like FastStone image viewer and resize them in it. It supports all the processes that you need. Crop-Resize-Convert to PNG, BW conversions...

Kindle PW 10th generation problem

Hello, I have checked everything with respect to the size and type of pics to use for screensavers, installed the hack, etc. but it only uses the ss pictures once or twice and then reverts either to a blank screen or to last page. I would like to uninstall the ss hack and start over with a new installation. (BTW I have also installed file explorer, so I know KUAL is working just fine.) Can someone tell me how to uninstall the Linkss hack? Is it as simple as deleting the linkss extension folder? I would also like to add that I have no problems with the linkss on my PW 11th generation. Both of these devices were jailbroken with Winter Break. On another issue, since I am using the latest KUAL, is it still necessary to insert the blank file for either "cover" or "random" or "autoreboot" etc? I am just a little confused because it looks like the KUAL has all the options as switches within the app. Thanks to anyone who has thoughts on these.......

For those wondering how to do this, I grabbed the latest KindleTool from its git repository, ran:

Code:
kindletool extract Update_linkss_0.25.N_install_pw2_and_up.bin extracted
cd extracted
kindletool create ota2 -d kindle5 . > ../Update_linkss_0.25.N_install_kindle5.bin
and it works for the most part. When I hit "restart framework now" in KUAL, after the restart, I can't unlock my Kindle. The frontlight is stuck on, there's no pin entry dialog, and pressing the power button does nothing. However, after forcing a reboot by holding down the power button for a while, I can use it just fine. Using Menu → Settings → Menu → Restart works.

And I'm using either the random or shuffled mode (I can never keep them straight), and that works just fine.

Unhappy Package script failed (1), moving on...

I’m using a Kindle Paperwhite 10th generation (PW4) running firmware 5.17.1. I’ve already successfully jailbroken it and installed KOReader.

I wanted to install USB Network, Screen Saver Hack, and Python, but in all three cases, whether I tried with KUAS helper or MRPI, the installation failed. Running “;log mrpi” always gave me the same error:
“Package script failed (1), moving on...”

You would need to use USBNetLite since your device is running hard float firmware (the hf you see in many package names). For Python, I think if you search this forum you will find one or two hard float packages. As for the Screen Saver Hack, you are on your own there—I've never used it.

As a gift to show my appreciation I've made a free and open source client side website to crop your favorite images in new grayscale images suitable for any Kindle version you just have to choose your Kindle version beforehand and select what's important for you in the picture to show https://alexprox7.github.io/Image-co...-screensavers/
