The biggest motel in Junction city was right next to the restaurant, and we stayed there while my parents looked for a place to live. I was seven years old when we moved to Kansas. The owner of 'Cone's Chicken House,' Mr. Cone (formally Mr. Cohen before he decided to ease into Kansas society) had a side business of helping Army officers find off-base housing, and we ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner for several days while Mr. Cone found suitable lodgings for us. This was around 1953... I passed through Junction City again twenty years later, and decided to see if the restaurant was still there. It was, and as it was dinner time, we decided to eat. The waitress seated us and took our order. As we were waiting I watched an older man walking around the tables meeting and glad-handing the diners, mostly families with quite a few young Army officers heading them.

When he got to our table, he looked at me for about 20 seconds... then said "How's your father, the Major? Is he still practicing Oral Surgery?" This, twenty years later... Amazing fellow, this Mr.Cone!

Looking back because I've been so many places for schools and other training, I have to say I don't think I ever got into town. Somehow we always had alcohol though

I have no memory of the town itself. I remember the school, 'The Lincoln School, and walking over the hill in front of it, down across the field to 'Riley Manor,' the street our house was on. When I went back 20 years later, I found the school, but the hill and fields were now housing developments, and 'Riley Manor' was no more... I guess it's true; you can't go home again!

Definitely. The grape thrives in the same climates as Syrah, and is often a part of a Rhone blend, but on its own makes for a quite food friendly wine.

Peet's Irish Breakfast Blend tea. This is in the same vein as their English Breakfast Blend, but with a sharper edge. Probably a bit much if you don't take milk (I don't), but some mornings, it just works. And I plan to use it in my custom Russian Caravan blend next time.

Good morning, everyone! Happy Saturday, and another opening of the Chiang Mai Fencing Club! We've some guest fencers coming today all the way from Alaska! Our fame is spreading far and wide, and folks want to come and play with us. Is it like the top gunfighter having strangers come to town to challenge him for the spot? Nah... Just folks who hear that they can get some serious competition even when they are far from home!

So this morning I've put East India Company's "Assam" tea in my cup, I'll get some light foods from the Food Lady, then pack up my uniform and weapons for a full day at the club! Should be a really nice day!
