Which was OK to good. More a look at the effect of an investigation on the police officers than anything else. The solution to the disappearance was fairly obvious early on.

Next up: Sky Dragons by Todd & Anne McCaffrey. The 25th book about Pern. The series has clearly run out of steam IMO, and is just doing the same stories again.

Finished The Transition of Titus Crow, by Brian Lumley, and have now started Horn, by D. Keith Mano, which was generously donated to me.

Concurrent with the above literary novel, I'm also reading an Indy horror novella, Nana, by Mark Towse. (Kindle Unlimited.) I'm almost finished with it.

Reading Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach.

This one's a little less amusing than her norm, but very, very interesting in spite of that. As well as horrifying, saddening, and concerning. I'm running through a larger gamut of feelings regarding what we do to wild animals and why as well as some of the ramifications that may yet backfire upon us and I'm only partway through.

When I saw this had been added to my library's ebook collection, I was delighted.

The book probably wasn't helped by my finding that I've skipped two books that set up the premise for this one. OTOH, I have no desire to catch up on the intermediate volumes, so I'm probably not going to bother with any more of this series.

Next up: Gently Down the Stream by Alan Hunter. The third in his Inspector George Gently series.

I'm reading the Planet of Adventure Omnibus by Jack Vance. I'm finishing book 2 (The Wankh). Curious title, but the story is very pulpy and quite enjoyable. I like it more than the Cadwal Chronicles, which was my previous Vance read.

This is a great series of four novels!

There was only one Jack Vance. To be anyone else is to be...unthinkable, untenable, and downright crazy!

Finished A Discovery of Witches and leaving the following sequels a while for something I've really been wanting to read. The 4-book Godstalker series. I've read the first one twice, but not the others.

Another enjoyable book in the series, again set in Norfolk, and again with mangled place names.

Next up: A random pick, C is for Corpse by Sue Grafton.

"Book of Form and Emptiness" was excellent. It takes a lot to get me invested enough in a book in these latter days (it was much easier when I was a teenager) but I feel very fortunate that my last three books, espescially Cloud Cuckoo Land and Book of Form and Emptiness and, to a lesser extent, Boy, Snow Bird fitted that bill.

I am not sure if it belongs here or "what are you listening to?" but my last slate of audiobooks has been excellent as well. The Audible Sandman, Vol. II was spectacular and so are the Andy Serkis-narrated LOTR and The Hobbit. I am now finally trying to fully digest The Silmarillion via audiobook and, while not a Serkis narration, it is good and definitely working for me in a way that trying to read the text version did not.

I will have to see what's in my Kindle for a textural eBook for the weekend, since I finished "Book of Form and Emptiness."

Took a momentary break to read for the second time, Command, and I will Obey You, by one of my favorite writers: Alberto Moravia.

Now back to reading Horn, by D. Keith Mano, which was generously donated to me. Also, I'm almost finished with the horror novella mentioned in an earlier post.

Which I enjoyed. I'll keep the rest in my TBR pile.

Next up: The Magical Maze by Ian Stewart. A book that was the basis for his Royal Society Christmas Lectures on mathematics. Probably nothing knew to me, but it's well written so far and a good read.

Started reading _The Sabres of Paradise_ which I somehow missed when it was first recommended here:

Looking forward to it, and fascinated by the _Dune_ connection.

This storyline has been played out many times before and with nothing new here the book came out rather dull and unmemorable. Inconsistencies and repeating actions/responses made this seem very amateurish. Short book with little world building. The deliberate reveal "lying" at the end was interesting. Rated D+ [one star].

I think I'll let the self-published go for now and move on to The Furthest Station novella/short by Ben Aaronovitch.
