I chose another Kindle freebie to read. Genesis (First Colony #1) by Ken Lozito.

Readable and a little entertaining but not very realistic. Many flaws in establishing the colony. I felt the colonists were too stupid as "experts" in their field. It seemed nothing was known about the native wildlife. When asked no one knew anything after six months of study. No military. Weak security. Inadequate resources. This is one the reader just goes follows along without analytical thinking. Rated D [2 stars].

Today I started listening to Mary L. Trump (on Audible), The Reckoning: Our Nation's Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal. I miss reading on kindle but have been trying to use my credits on Audible so I can give it up. I listen while out walking. This one is only about 5 hours long.

Why not just use up your credits and quit? Then listen at your leisure, interspersed with reading? (My own not-yet-listened-to Audible books are legion.)

Read 2 Stephen King books back to back.

Insomnia. An excellent read with a lot of Dark Tower tie-ins.

Billy Summers. Another excellent read with virtually no supernatural stuff (some references to The Shining/Doctor Sleep).

I read mostly SF, mystery and fantasy. For action/adventure you might try some of these authors: William Dietz (military space SF), James F David (dinosaurs), Richard K Morgan, Jack McDevitt (space opera), Kali Wallace (AI's), Martha Wells (hilarious and dangerous sentient robots, start with All Systems Red), C Robert Cargill (AIs take over the world), Todd McAulty (Robots of Gotham), Richard Kadrey (badass man comes back from Hell), MR Carey (Zombies- The Girl with all the Gifts), Glen Duncan (The Last Werewolf).
Mystery- Garry Disher (Wyatt books- the hero is a high class thief), Harry Dolan (Bad Things Happen), Nicolas Obregon.

Some sites I check periodically for ideas are below.

You have the right idea. I might do that. The longer I wait, the more I pay ($15 a month, which I don't even do with e-books, since I have so many). I think I have 6 credits (just gained one).

I'm gearing up to start Revival. Apparently it fits well after reading Joyland, which I did with a group recently (second read).

Use them in a hurry! I'm not sure how the new credit scheme works, but you used to have a maximum number of credits you could "stockpile" of 6 (12 if you were on the two credit a month plan). After that point, they started deleting credits to keep you at the maximum.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. A fantasy set mostly in the nineteenth century. I found I could only read a few of the short chapters at a time before needing a breather - though there is not a lot of action, the mood of each chapter felt quite intense. A large and wonderfully portrayed cast, and the magical Night Circus itself grows with the telling so you can almost smell it and feel it. Part love-story, part magical feast, part myth-building and part almost-but-not-quite-wallowing in the richness of the setting. I'm certain it won't be to everyone's tastes, but I loved it. 5/5.

I too was totally captivated by this book - completely original, and yes - you can smell and feel the circus - truly magical.

Quite 'fun' in a post-apolcalypse sort of way.

Next up: 1636: The China Venture by Iver P. Cooper and Eric Flint. Another recent purchase.

I started reading Family Law by Mackey Chandler. While it's a bit clunky in spots, it definitely has grabbed me and won't let go. It's a long book and there are 5 more in the series. And it's free on KU.

Just starting Life and Death in the Woods by Cecilia Peartree. I've read 18 of her Pitkirtly series, and in the opening chapters of this first book in a new series, the lead protagonist seems a bit too much like his equivalent in that series, an Arthur Dentish hapless everyman. We shall see where it goes.
