I think you would first need to set up your phone/tablet which contains the Alexa app to work on her WiFi network, then go into the Alexa app and select the Echo device and then select the WiFi Network. See attached screen capture under the Wireless category.

Amazon seems to roll out updates to devices in a random manner, much like they have done with the Kindles. I have two Taps and they tend to get updates several days apart, and sometimes even longer. I think I will dust off my old Echo 1 and temporarily hook it up to see if it will update with the Bass control just to test it out. I have a Dot, but it is mounted on my master bathroom wall for controlling the lights therein so I rarely use it for music. I use my Taps for music, but so far no Bass update for them, but Amazon doesn't consider them to be Echos so they might not get it.
BTW, sometimes I will turn off (unplug) an Echo or Tap device then turn them back on in hopes of getting it to update. Not sure if that works, but it might help. I know that when I occasionally turn my shelved Echo 1 on for a while it tends to update within an hour or so, but it has usually been asleep for a few months so it might just be catching up with missed updates. |

We Tap customers continue to get shafted--no equalizer. Seriously?
I adjusted the equalizer on my Dot, but the Tap was left out again. Why did Amazon even make the Tap? They pretend that they didn't make it with every update ![]() |

I assume they wanted the Tap to compete with the devices that can be taken outdoors and have a battery. Of course Amazon decided not to give it an SD card slot, so unless you have WiFi you can forget about listening to music on it. Plus it isn't water proof, so keep it away from the pool! No placing it in your car and cruising down the road either unless you want to rig up a cellular hotspot and burn your data. Amazon has poop for brains. They seldom think things through when it comes to their devices.

Oh, I don't know about PFB.
Judging from the number of Tap owners here, they seem to have made a few bucks from the Tap. And they're not in competition with Apple for being the first trillion dollar company by being stupid. |

Alexa devices are a tiny portion of the Amazon business, as far as actual hardware sales. They are barely a blip on their radar. If Amazon approaches Apple in market value it will be because of their Amazon Store retail sales, mostly from third parties. That is and always has been Amazon's major source of income. Their devices are merely a means to generate more sales of services, not of actual hardware devices. If you pull out just the Amazon devices like the Alexa ones, the Kindles, the Fires, FireTVs, and whatever else they have, all those combined wouldn't put a dent in the competition like Apple, Google, and Samsung. Amazon has a really long history of having lackluster features for their devices, going back about a decade to the Kindles. You still don't have the simplest controls on book formatting on Kindles that should have been there a decade ago. IMO, Amazon excels in the retail store market, but they really don't have much in the electronic device market. I think the Kindle out lasted the eBook reader competition because Amazon knew how to create a good eBook store whereas Sony had better readers, as did other companies, but none of those now defunct business lines ever figured out the book store end of it. Alexa devices were not designed for use to ask them to do stuff for us any more than the Kindles were designed to allow us to read books we already owned. Amazon devices have a primary design purpose of fueling mega sales within the Amazon Store. New features tend to offer more ways to buy stuff rather than more features we would find useful for reading on or talking to a device. Amazon updates to their devices are more for boosting sales rather than actually improving the usability of said hardware. That's a good business plan, but really bad from our perspective as we prefer usable features and not retail generating ones.

And speaking of the trillion dollar company threshhold...Apple just beat all other American companies there....A Chinese oil company briefly crossed that threshold a while back.
https://money.cnn.com/2018/08/02/inv...lue/index.html Kind of sad to see so many companies with that kind of wealth and so many people with barely enough to survive on...but so goes the world... Last edited by OtinG; 08-02-2018 at 12:05 PM. |

Has anyone seen an icon for "Alexa Accessories" in the notifications bar on a Fire tablet? It appeared a couple of weeks ago and won't go away. Tapping on it doesn't do anything; it's just sitting there. For a while the date on the notification was 7/20; then it changed to 7/29. It's annoying!

I can't say for sure, though, if the answer was correct. I've never used Alexa on my tablet, so I haven't bothered figuring out how to update Alexa from within Fire itself. |

I read something about show mode, but it seems like one more thing that's useless for me personally. If they want to tell me about it, fine--I'd be happy to tap the notification to read about it, but that's not what happens. |

Long press on it and when the I icon shows tap that from there you can get rid of the stupid thing by choosing hide.
