Doing a happy dance.

Next Saturday it's Koninginnedag (Queen's day) in the Netherlands. On that day we celebrate the birthday of our queen. In many cities people can sell their old junk in certain areas of the city and in many cities there are stages where bands play or tv/radio station have a party (with lots of music).

My city also celebrates Queen's Night; the night before Queen's Day the selling of junk starts and bands play throughout the city. Living in the city center I hate these two days. Around the corner is one of the stages with live music from 9pm-1am on Friday and from 2pm-6pm on Saturday. The bands are not that good and they always play too loud (we have a decibel meter and even around the corner behind the stage it's too loud). The one playing on Friday is called Pure Ellende (Pure Misery). It wouldn't be too bad, in my room I would be able to cancel out the noise with my headphones on. But on the church square a radio station has a stage with various dj's and no headphone is able to cancel out that noise.

But instead of leaving on Saturday the friends I house/dog/cat sit for are leaving on Friday! No bad and/or loud music for me this year!

I think we might skip leash training tonight - and let everyone calm down.

Poor thing.

Nikita we have to watch with plastic bags because she always wants to look inside to see if there is any food. Her biggest weakness are milkshake cups, she always gets her head stuck trying to reach the bottom. Not that she minds it, until it's empty, but she can always free herself and you end up with a very sticky cat. She always starts cleaning out packages, cups, etc at the bottom, I think she does this because if it gets taken away she still has the yummy stuff that sticks to her head to clean up.

Our friend's cat would sniff, stick her head in a plastic bag, then stop dead. She would then shake her head and flop on her back with all four legs held stiff in the air. No matter how many times we took her out, she would do it again and again. If she got it caught on her legs, she would start hopping straight up and down like a four-legged pogo stick. Which of course, made the plastic bag move and she would start hopping faster. Once we finally took the bag off, she would sit, wash her front paws, and slowly walk into the kitchen to her food bowl.

My goodness, but my brain is reeling and eyes are strained. Finished 4 books in the past week. TBR list is now down to 32, 23 of which are Discworld and don't really count. They are sort of "hobby" books to read when nothing else will satisfy. Gonna start Anna Karenina next.

Leash training your kitten in 3, no 4, no 5, no .... how ever many easy steps.

1. Apply kitty holster to kitten. After securely cinching up the belly strap, remove both front legs from inside the neck strap and tighten down securely.
2. Check all closures & remove any hair caught in the velcro.
3. Kitten falls onto right side simulating a stroke.
4. Set kitten on feet and watch her fall over onto right side.
5. Put treats in bowls and observe miraculous recovery of kitten's ability to walk on all 4 feet.
6. Attach leash to D-ring on harness & play out 5 feet of leash.
7. Kitten falls onto back, rolls & wraps self into leash & begins to chew on leash.
8. Unroll kitten & place on 4 feet & praise hugely.
9. Walk 6 inches & repeat step 7.
10. Repeat step 8.
11. Repeat step 9.

Continue cycle until partner demands you "free that poor suffering little baby kitten" & "give her lots of treats."
Send partner to get more Guinness.

[Actually it went very well tonight, especially after the earlier near-death plastic bag experience.]

Orange stuff is part of Queen's Day, which reminds me that I have to get more orange light bulbs from the basement.

[rant]
For us it isn't a fun day, not only because of the noise but also the "aftermath". The stage always hooks up on our 360 volt outlet, the wire going from our basement to the stage runs over the street and my father spends more than one hour after the last performance cleaning (scraping off) all the beer, food and vomit before he can put it away. In the past they would thank my father for letting them use our power supply but nowadays they don't even bother asking beforehand.

I spend the next morning I'm working after Queen's Day cleaning our sidewalk, window, door and woodwork (again; food, beer, cigarettes and vomit). My father allows the café next door, the owner has been my father's friend since they were children) to put their tables, chairs and beer tap in front of our building, mostly to protect our big shop window. One of the, unwritten, conditions was that they would clean up but they haven't done that in years.

I'm just tired that they take so much advantage of us. Not only do we have to listen to bad and too loud music but father has to stay at home because if something happens to the power supply. He isn't one to complain but last year he told the café bosses that at one point the music was so loud he was seriously considering pulling the plug, literally. I wish he would actually do it, not that they would learn from it but still.

*snicker* we did not have such histrionics! is she interested in the big outside? I think the most effective thing may have been hooking Strider up and letting him "walk" me. when I got Arwen she was just kind of thrown into the situation without much choice
