Plus, there is no Kindle section on amazon.co.uk; if you want to buy a Kindle, the UK site redirects you to the US Amazon site.

If it was really targeted at international customers, at a minimum they'd crank up offerings in foreign languages.

Mind you I do think it'll take a long time for them to really roll out country-specific stores, but I don't think selling English-only titles is really a viable international business in the long term.
Amazon have already stated that they will be opening a UK eBook "storefront"; I suspect the international "rollout" was just done to get the device onto the market in time for Christmas.

No, okay, let me be clearer - the company involved was not Sony. It was a Chinese company, now defunct.

Oh, Ok, I thought you were talking about the Sony BMG rootkit thing:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BM...ection_scandal

http://www.wired.com/politics/securi.../2005/11/69601

Which was pretty scummy, an certainly worse than whatever Amazon has been accused of. I did avoid Sony products for a while after that.

No

Sony Music have a terrible record, I'll agree (and I don't buy direct from them or any of the majors, only second hand), but Sony as a whole doesn't, really.

Well, from Spanish point of view, I think that Amazon can't do miracles. If you only find some small publishers selling PDF books (Equipo Sirius), I believe it's difficult Amazon can sell Spanish titles.

And about selling English-only titles, perhaps in Germany or France they have a different offer, but again from Spanish point of view, no Spanish titles in pb, no Spanish titles in e-book, no difference there.

I don't know of anything going on with the Sony reader or their book store. If you do, let me know.

Amazon has an offer that I find limited and, frankly, stupid. I have not seen any convincing argument that it is illegal or immoral. We should take this to the other thread, anyway.

As anyone who has dropped a stack of punch cards that contained a large program can attest: Punch cards are the devil. :-(

Is anyone working on this seriously? ATM I'm able to decrypt individual books, but the final-stage Mobipocket PC1 decryption uses a per-book PID derived by other means. I don't want to waste my time if someone else already has it weaponized / is close.

It sounds like you are closer than anyone who has said so in public, see Adventures in discovering the K4PC PID.

I do think it would be a much better use of your time if you could decrypt the new DRm B&N is using for ePub. Check out the free eBooks and download the Star Wars one that is in ePub. I would love to have B&N ePub able to be liberated.

No it wouldn't, because Kindle For PC is international - useful for far more people than doing anything with Barnes and Noble ever will be, by a long way.
