Hi...MAC crashed. I reinstalled all programs. Calibre Library was intact. HOWEVER, I can not get CALIBRE to recognize the pre-existing library.
What should I do?

I had a similar issue in Windows where the initial screen brought up on first post-install launch would not let me use an existing directory. Simply Answering NO to the question about guided setup and/or cancelling that initial library search allowed Calibre to start. Of course the first thing it asked then was for the path to the library - which brought up a seemingly-identical search...however, THIS one didn't complain about the library directory already existing and it happily "reconnected" with my library.

HTH,
Richard

I do not get any such screen with the CALIBRE startup

Double clicking the new icon simply restarts Calibre which shows ZERO books in the library. I am still unable to get the program to recognize the presence of the pre-existing library

Did you go into configuration and set your library location to you existing library?

it does give the location of the existing library...but does not enter it into the library icon on CALIBRE....every time I upgrade to a new version, I lose all existing data on the 'library icon' in calibre ..even though the library continues to exist in it usual place

I've been running my Calibre library on the web for a few months but using Dropbox as a host for the files. Gets rid of all the problems of running your own server.

So You
Open a Dropbox account
Create (or move) your Calibre library into your Dropbox Public folder (in my case My Documents/My Dropbox/Public/Library
Use Calibre2opds (v2.3) to create your catalog (within the Dropbox Library)
The only special option I selected was 'Browse by Cover'

Then Just use the Dropbox link for the file _catalog/catalog.html to access your library from any device with internet access in the world.

Viewed with web browser

Mac is wonderful
I went into 'time machine'...went back 6 weeks...restored the library with its metadata intact for that time and voila.......the library is restored to almost its complete version

There are always tradeoffs. It's too small for me.

This could be considered copyright infringement. You will note the word "Public"in your post.

(My point is not that you are doing anything illegal or that you should stop, or that you are running some sort of risk. It's actually just a comment on how hard it is to comply with copyright laws in the modern digital world.)

I prefer my home server.

Hi Guys,

I've just had a chance to look at the new Web UI for Calibre. Very nice!

As before (somewhere near the beginning of this thread) I serve all the internal applications I use (Well, those with web interfaces) to the outside using a server on the edge of my network via mod_proxy and mod_proxy_html (if required), basically reverse proxying from a sub directory to isolate the App.

With this update, although I haven't had a real dig yet, it looks like that's no longer easy to do.

As before, is it possible to change any absolute URLs in the code to relative paths?

Or, for the JS bits, something akin to '/parsed existing path / calibre path.'

Thanks for continuing to develop this, it's awesome.

You might be interested in a few of the posts in a different thread, https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...92#post1185292. There is discussion there of various options to integrate the calibre server into another web server. Of particular interest to you might be the --prefix operator, which would allow you to set calibre's absolute URL to that being used for reverse proxy.

Look at the tutorials section of the user manual, it explains how to tintegrate the content server into a Apache using either a reverse proxy or WSGI

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here...but maybe more brains will be able to point out where we're going wrong. I have calibre server set up on my PC. It's running, and I can access it fine both on our home network, and outside it - I had a couple of friends check and they have no problem accessing and/or downloading from it.
However, neither Chris's Droid X nor my Palm Pre will download from the server. We can access it and browse the collection, but cannot download anything. An .rtf file will open in the browser on Chris's Droid, but won't even do that on my Palm. Chris has Aldiko installed, so the phone had an app. that reads ePubs, so that shouldn't have been the problem, at least as I understand how that works.
Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

I am not sure what is or is not happening.

If the rtf file appears when using the browser, then the download happened. That implies that calibre is serving files. Have you checked calibre's log to see what calibre thinks is happening when you download an EPUB? Does it try and fail, or does something else happen?

It could be that the file is being downloaded but then not opened. In that case, you would need to find where the downloading app put the downloaded file, then try to open it with the reader SW.

Aldiko supports OPDS catalogs. Have you tried using that approach with the Droid?
