Ditto in my downstate NY suburb. Here, and in the other suburbs whose libraries I belong to, only people who live, work, own property in, or attend school in that library's municipality are permitted to join the library.

In contrast, anyone who lives, works, owns property in, or attends school in New York State may join the Brooklyn Public Library, NYPL, and Queens Public Library free of charge, even if they live so far away they have to join online or by mail. I think that's because our NYS tax payments contribute to the NYS Board of Regents and NYS Education Department, which in turn fund large portion of those NYC libraries' budgets.

I've read the whole series. It was very entertaining and a fairly easy read. I felt like it had an even balance of relationships, conflict, and fantasy elements. The magic relied on a particular substance and more training/education than innate ability.

As a general reminder rather than a specific recommendation, the annual Smashwords "Read an Ebook Week" promotion started today. Basically, they define a few different coupons and invite any of their authors who are interested to participate... so there's SFF, but also lots (and lots) of other stuff available.

This is an excellent time to stock up on books you may have been on the fence about buying.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab is in Amazon UK's Kindle monthly deals for 99p. For some strange reason it was listed in the crime section when I looked. I read it a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Think I saw the sequel at a reduced price too.

Nope, I actually suck at trying to sell stuff in person. I'm way too introverted. I do tend to talk excitedly about things I enjoy though, so I'm better at recommending those things to others. (Especially online, where I don't have to interact with people in person.)
