Nice! I just got a 900. Looks like that one has a replaceable battery? The paperwork that came with it talks about how to install the battery. It is a very nice ereader although the screen glare is like on my 650. The screens on the T series are much better.

I've been picking them up cheap on Shopgoodwill.com

I have a 950 that needs a new screen & a battery for my current 950 so I can still use it. To me the _50 series was the best although I still love my 505. The 950 I feel was the best one they ever made. People keep telling me to go with the nook but I like how Sony made it simple. You can read books, listen to music (I usually do nture sounds lol) and make your notes. I don't care about led screens, ability to browse internet, or if the thing makes you pancakes in the morning. I don't want to read my book & have it interupted because I got an email...I'm a simple girl, what can I say?

I don't know the exact specs for the Sony 950 (Daily Edition) battery. However, NewPower99.com sells a battery for the earlier model, the Sony 900. The replacement battery for the Sony 900 MAY NOT fit the Sony 950. The spec on that replacement battery for the Sony 900 - from NewPower99.com - is rated at 1400 mAh and is a Lithium-Ion, which may be different than the one for the Sony 950.

You should probably call or email them to see if those specs will be sufficient for the Sony 950 and, most importantly, if it will fit in the case of the Sony 950. Also, you will need to find out if soldering is (and can be) done on this unit, especially if the wires are soldered to the board.

This older thread, from Mobileread, is not encouraging:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=173748

Unfortunately, all other eInk readers do make pancakes. Only the Sony line didn't, which may account for their failure in the marketplace.

The screen on the 900 is crap. It is a glaring mess. I have no idea how you can say the 650 has the same glare. That's not so at all. The contrast of the 900 is also not all that good. Sorry, but I highly disagree with you here.

The battery shown in msg #290 is the correct one. I bought one (probably from another vender) and had it installed and it wouldn't work.

I charged my Sony PRS-300 up this afternoon and plan on starting reading on it again as I haven't done much reading since I started working as a cashier at Walmart earlier this summer.

Still sporting a Sony eReader PRS-T1 here (its great in the UK to borrow eBooks from Libraries using the Overdrive service). I love its lightness, the touch screen but hate the lag and the constant freezes/crashes if I attempt to use the dictionary.

The problem with the T1 is that it doesn't have enough memory (not storage). It lags big time on opening a book with a large cover. Then if the title page is also large, another big lag.

The problem is the T1 is old, slow, and obsolete. It's version RDSK (ADE) is old. It doesn't even support hyphenation.

My suggestion is (if you can afford it) is to replace your T1 with a Kobo. But wait until the new ones are release so you have a better choice.

There is a bug that causes this, but AFAIK it only occurs if you are using either of the two largest size fonts.

If that's the case, see if you can live with the third from largest. It should stop the crashing.

I normally use only the smallest or next-to-smallest font sizes and I started getting the dictionary freeze glitch about a year ago (first few years with the reader were no problem). Sometimes I can look up a lot of words in between freezes, other times it seems to happen every few lookups.

I usually don't have any problem switching between the two English language dictionaries, but switching to other dictionaries often causes the lockup and I have to reset.

My T1 would stall processing very large side loaded library with 1000+ books. Easy solution is turn off cover display in library. Now has 2300+ books with out problems. This includes 1700 short stories. Yes I would buy another Sony Reader because I like the interface and options but no new readers from Sony.

After using Sony and now Kobo, I find the options on a Sony pretty lacking.

I still have my 505 (with a cracked screen) and my 650. I do/did love the 650, but I almost never use it I've found it easier to use the Kindle App on my Samsung and my iPad mini. I'm not even sure I remember how to sideload books onto my 650. I needed the iPad for classes and it seemed overkill to stick the 650 in my bag along with the iPad. But there's nothing like that paperwhite. So much nicer than the Kindle app stuff I use.
