The latest rumors I've seen tag a 5.9" Motorola as the Nexus 6. Time will tell.

I gave the Swedish price (3099 SEK for 16GB model) translated to USD.

Well, my point was that it is not expensive since it is the standard price for an unlocked high grade phone in the market here.

Standard unlocked price for most high end phones in the US is in the $650~$750 range. Problem is, the Fire isn't in the same league as the Galaxy S5 or HTC One (M8), so it shouldn't be priced with that group. It's better compared with the Nexus 5, which is $250 cheaper.

Not being locked down to At&T could be a big enticement to potential Fire Phone customers.

Even though the new law is an easy one to rally around, mainly because it has little to do with the spirit behind the copyright law, it's not likely to have a major effect on the industry since most wireless operators unlock devices when asked by their customers anyway. Each carrier has their own criteria for unlocking. Most require that customer fully own their devices and have been in good financial standing with the operator for a given period of time.

These requirements aren't going away as part of this bill either. Wireless operators are only required to unlock devices that a customer fully owns. In other words, if you are still under contract with your carrier and you bought a device at a subsidized price, your wireless operator doesn't have to unlock your phone. In many instances, the carrier won't.

Amazon Slashes Fire Phone Prices by $200

Quote:
On Monday, Amazon took a drastic step to avert disaster, announcing that it would charge 99 cents for the phone, basically giving it away if users signed a two-year contract with AT&T, the exclusive carrier.

Amazon has money to burn, and a relentless determination. But some analysts still wondered if a price drop of almost $200 was enough.

They already know more about me than I'm comfortable with, why should I hand over even more information?

Obviously I can't be sure but I do believe that more and more people are thinking along those lines.

I think it was pricing. Amazon overpriced it at launch.

$200 is considered expensive? Isn't that like a third of an iPhone?

Where I live prices are very different, but I do believe those reflect the American price structure.

It is when the phone is priced the same as an iPhone, S5, One (M8), and other high end phones. The Fire Phone is a mid range phone and should've been priced lower from the start.

Another problem was AT&T exclusivity. That locked out Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and other carriers. I use Verizon and would never switch just to get a particular phone. I'm quite sure that I'm not alone with that sentiment.

Most people get the lower priced version, which for the iPhone 5S is the 16GB model priced at $199 subsidized and $649 unlocked. For the Fire Phone, it's 32GB and was originally priced the same as the iPhone 5S 16GB ($199 / $649). Now it's $200 cheaper; which is far more realistic.

That's a subsidized price. You get a phone at a discount, and the other side of the coin is that you overpay for your phone service and end up paying way more than you saved on the phone price over the term of your contract (usually 2 years).

Thank you for the clarification. I thought the $200 was a purchase price and then you selected your carrier for a SIM card. Sorry, I misunderstood. Amazon not being a carrier I don't understand why they would limit themselves to AT&T.

No problem. The US is quite regressive when it comes to carrier contracts.
